The Samurai Z is the sequel to Scythe's
Samurai.
Scythe has come a long way since the original Samurai was released, having conquered
a large portion of the high end market with models like the
Ninja and the Shogun. Given the fierce competition, it's
no surprise that the original Samurai has been upgraded. The Ninja
may lead the way, but it cannot win the battle for market share alone. A reasonably
priced midrange model is a necessity, and what better a model
than a new and improved Samurai Z?
The main similarity between the Samurai and the Samurai Z is the name. By all
appearances, the Samurai Z is a new design, with a different fan,
redesigned fins, new heatpipes, and a completely different mounting system.
Its midrange target market seems to be the only reason to keep the Samurai name. [Editor's Note: Is it possible that the Scythe team is running out of clever naming creativity?! They had a lot of fun in the past with names like Kamakaze, Kamaboko and so on.]
Fire is not the most auspicious imagery for a CPU cooler...
Like all Scythe products, the Samurai Z comes in a colorful retail box. This
one features raging flames in the background. Presumably, they are meant to
connote the excitement of a battlefield (violence sells), not a burning CPU...
The box contains the heatsink / fan, an installation sheet, and three pairs
of mounting clips.
