Recently, we've seen many new names in the power supply market. Corsair, Zalman, and Mushkin are just a few. We don't know whether retail PSUs represent such a growth market, but it's what these various component companies seem to believe. For Lian Li, the move to power supplies is not as big of a step as it might have been for, say, Corsair, since Lian Li already makes computer cases.

Lian Li was very enthusiastic about us reviewing their HPC-series power supplies, so they sent us the HPC-500 and HPC-600, 500W and 600W PSUs, respectively. We decided to test the HPC-600 first, and see how it handled our infamous power supply tester. If it proved successful, we could run the HPC-500 through it's paces to see how it compares.

FEATURE HIGHLIGHTS AND SPECIFICATIONS

The HPC series comes with quite a nice list of features. Lian Li is known for high-end aluminum cases, so this is no surprise.

Lian Li HPC-600 Feature Highlights (from the Lian Li web site)
FEATURE & BRIEF COMMENT
Meets ATX 12V Version 2.2 Specifications
It remains the industry standard for ATX.
Dual power supply functionality A feature we don't often see. Lian Li allows for two power supplies to be installed in a single system.
Sleeved cables. Nice touch that's good for airflow
Dual PCI-Express connectors Good for those who need it - although for the most part, the more power you draw, the louder the system.
Anti-Vibration Pad Could be all right, but the fan would probably cause more noise than the vibrations when installed in a decent case.
UL, CUL, TUV, FCC, CE and CB Approved The more the merrier.
Advanced Double Forward Circuit and Double-Layer PCB They say it's for more reliability, efficiency, and power, but we've seen many excellent PSUs without this.
Super High Efficiency (84%) 84% is a high mark to hit. Very few of the PSUs tested thus far have made it this high.
