THE SYSTEM

Here's a quick rundown on the system that SPCR gave away:

• Antec NSK6500 case (NSK6580 without the power supply), with mass-loaded foam applied to the door panel for increased rigidity and the rear fan swapped for a low speed, silicone grommet-mounted Scythe Slip Stream fan running at ~500 RPM.
• Seasonic S12-430 power supply with the original fan swapped for a high speed Scythe Slip Stream fan
• Asus Triton 75 heatsink with a Scythe Slip Stream fan controlled by the motherboard (typically ~500 RPM; 600 RPM under load)
• Seagate Momentus 7200.2 160 GB notebook hard drive, soft-mounted with elastic hairbands
• AMD Athlon X2 5000+ Black Edition processor
• Asus M3A32-MVP Deluxe/WiFi-AP motherboard
• 2 x 1GB sticks Corsair XMS2 PC8500 DDR2 RAM
• Gigabyte GV-NX76T256D-RH (GeForce 7600GT) fanless graphics card
• Terratec 6Fire 24/96 sound card
• LG GSA-H22N DVD Writer

The system was extensively tested and profiled in our lab before we shipped it cross-continent for the conference. The result? A whisper-quiet system that was just barely measurable at just 19 dBA@1m in our 18 dBA lab. This was after several hours at continuous full load, with the internal fans lazily rising up to 600 RPM from their 500 RPM baseline. The photos below show the system in its full glory.
