Gromacs 2107 - disproportionately slow?
I got a 2107 a few days ago and it's stupidly slow - only getting 40PPD and 3 more days to go Has anyone else had it yet? Is the processor type affecting the speed?

Stop the client if you're running it, then open a command prompt and navigate to the F@H dir. Run the main executable with the parameter '-configonly' (eg. FAH502-Console.exe -configonly ), re-configure (press Enter to use what's already there) and choose to change the advanced options - it's all in...

Au contraire - I had a PC Chips motherboard with K6-II 500 and it ran surprisingly well with onboard sound and video. Low resolutions, sure, but it didn't crash every 5 minutes.~El~Jefe~ wrote:i had the BEST motherboard possible, p5a by asus. it had the most features and tech by far.

Aesthetically, it's light years ahead of anything on the XP side of things; how they managed to fit all those components into such a slim format is an engineering marvel. More so than a laptop? The iMac is 17cm deep. A desktop LCD is around 5cm deep; a laptop is less than that, and that has both sc...

Please tell me where you get your switches. Millions of homes leave their TV on standby, their VCR switched on to avoid the blinking 12:00, mobile phone chargers, and their computers plugged in and still drawing power. They leave lights on in vacant rooms and set their thermostat 2 degrees higher than necessary. None of this is useful and con...

I couldn't get it working again, even after wiping the forum. It seems like a server problem, since that was not the only thing to stop working - I suspect it's to do with writing files, as the Folding@Home sig generator is fine. (J-Koopa: you've got PM. If he's right, then the much-cherished and seriously overpriced Nexus loses out to the $8 GW. Such a conclusion is, I suspect, unwelcome in this forum (to understate the matter!). Re: 600W is Quieter Than 500W
I think the 500W and 600W supplies have been upgraded since the SPCR review. I read elsewhere that they have improved fan controllers that make the supplies quieter than the 430W. Can you give us a link? It would be interesting to see what (if?) they changed anything. For example, Intel's reference...

You need a power meter (for example the Kill-a-Watt or Power Angel) or make your own.boe wrote:Sorry for the newbie question - but how do I find out what my system is using?AZBrandon wrote:Typically it draws 160-165 watts from the wall while gaming, and 100 watts at idle.

There seems to be no end to the misery with the P150. First, it is power supply compatability and defects. Next, broken seals on the power supplies. Now the drive suspension elastic breaks. Is there anything left to go wrong? Only if the case's resonant frequency is 120Hz. You'll have to use Raptor...

Cpemma, is that necessary? You're saying to place a resistor on the cut lead? I'm not very handy with soldering. I know that, when I snipped some fan wires, placing a piece of electric tape on the cut lead seemed to work fine. Electric tape has too much resistance, the LED will be barely on. ;) (He...

See: Thermaltake Schooner Think to yourself - how beneficial is that, exactly? There are no fans outside the case, convection cooling has a very limited effect. Bigger internal heatsinks would be more useful. but there is fresh air outside instead of hot air inside. At least the hot air inside is m...

here is a fanless idea, heatpipes go though the PCI slots and there will be some fins out side of the case. Its simple but I’m sure it would work. Only down side would be that some might not like the idea of having a big heatsink hanging outside of the case for safety reasons. See: Thermaltake Scho...
