Definitely - I use IPA (Isopropyl Alcohol - anything over 70% purity is great) and apply it with cotton buds. Be patient and try to get all of the gunk off, as this will greatly improve the thermal dissipation of your new HS and paste. If you do use something like cotton buds (You chaps in America m...

To be honest you shouldn't have to even consider undervolting (Which if you have an ASUS board is no easy thing). My SI-97 isn't lined up with my rear fan that well - yet my temps are still quite acceptable for what is a fairly hot cpu. Obviously I'm not running fanless but you'll have much better a...

Thermalright SI-97
evvk, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend a thermalright SI-97 (Or SI-97/A if you might upgrade in the near future). Mine is in a original sonata with poor airflow, no PSU fan above it (Antec SP-II), a couple of Low speed Yate Loons at about 6-7 volts (Can't hear them) and a 1500rpm nexus 92mm mounted ...

This guys a great seller and you can get three of them for less than a new fan.
No rpm monitoring, but who cares - just use your ears

uhm, I was put off from buying this cooler because it was only for Socket A, but now I guess I can! Wonder how it compares with the XP-90 though.. I too am intrigued - I was going to get an SI-97 anyway for my forthcoming silencing upgrade, but the prospect of having it compatible with so...

Dane - If you are seriously considering the SmartPower2 let me know, I've got one for sale! Cheers for the offer - but I'm guessing the 'CA' in your profile is referring to California. Shipping of a PSU from CA to England - Ouch  Plus I'm guessing the power lead wouldn't be correct. Do you s...

So, for all those who have one - how would you now judge the smartpower 2.0 as far as noise is concerned? Frankgehry gave it a very good review, and I'm thinking of getting one for my upgrade as they are cheaper than the seasonic's (In England anyway). I just wanted to make sure the 450W version was...

Hey all - sorry it's taken me a while to respond, been up to my arse in Thermofluids revision :( Kaizer: Thanks for that, I never thought to look for a way around the problem. Thanks man - you speak a lot of sense. If I eventually want a really quiet system then getting what's known to be the quietest PSU seems logical. I will need to get the new fans and controller so I don't have the stock Antec fan screaming away at 2000rpm. I'll probably still go for the SI-97 anyway ...

Ok guys - quick update. This is probably because both proposed methods of handling the airflow are valid, ...

OK - just reset and it's a no-go on the undervolting. ASUS in their infinite wisdom won't let me lower it at all so I'm stuck at 1.65V. Therefore I'm gonna have to deal with stock speeds. With the fair amount of heat that it'll give off, having the psu inlet that close to the SI-97 seems a tad unwis...

Thanks for the replies. I know my mobo won't even let me change the multiplier if the processor isn't unlocked, so there will be little uncertainty there. Yeah I agree 80cfm is a bit much, but without a 4pin molex -> 3pin adapter I currently don't have a way of slowing it down (And my ears are payin...

A bit of an ask but could you possible remove the front bezel and take some close-ups of the air intakes (Hole at the bottem, side vents, etc)? I'm very curious to see how Antec have improved the front airflow. Have they simply made the holes bigger like many here have and have they removed some of ...

'clipse - thanks for clarifying that. I know I have three 3-pin connectors on my board (designed for cpu, psu and case fan). I don't know if they're all capable of changing their voltage. Re: couple of things
actually you can control them fine but cannot monitor their RPM. all of my panaflow's don't display a RPM but run fine software controlled under speedfan. OK - I didn't know that - I figured the software would work by adjusting the rpm and not the voltage. Thanks for clarifying that. Am I correct i...

You'd definitely have to under-volt that fan as well. Have you thought about trying a 60->80mm adapter and using an 80mm fan? You'd get much more airflow for the same noise level. Something like this: http://www.coolerexpress.com/akfanad601.html I've never used one mind you - but it's something wort...

D, Assuming the fan can be connected to a basic fan controller like the one I mentioned - then turning it down to the minimum setting should give you roughly 5V. The range is approximately 5-12V on all of these controllers - it can just be a bit difficult to judge via the dial - but since your conce...

Ok - just read the SPCR review of the ATI 2 cooler (Basically the same as yours) and the fan speed is regulated by the PWM controller on the graphics card. ATI never used to put temp sensors on their cards (Like my 9800 PRO) hence the manual switch on the early models. So in other words - yes you ca...

Glad to be of help - just one question though. Is the fan on the Arctic-cooler actually thermally controlled? - Because if it isn't then you could put your case inside a fridge and it won't make a damn bit of difference. I'd ignore the 80-L-R (Seems aimed at servers, etc and has low airflow) If you look at the pics you'll see that the FBL 80L1A can only be mounted one way (i.e. as an exhaust in a case). The design is best suited for restricted areas and would be a good cpu fan. However for versatility you're best of...
