This is the board I would get if I was looking for s939 mATX today. For US residents, ZZF has it: http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=247026 Unfortunately, I needed to build my PC back in August, so I went with Jetway's pro solution. It is increasingly likely that the Jetway ...

This board is still at least 100 dollars too expensive, even with dual gigabit LAN and DDR2 RAM (both of which I don't need). Combined with the also-pricey Pentium M, this setup gets an extreme beatdown when it comes to the price/quiet performance ratio of a C&Q AMD64 w/ mATX board (lacking only gig...

There were some discussions about comparing the two. IIRC, the Scythe is a bit better, but not by enough to justify a replacement. I agree. For maximum performance, I'd say it depends how the cooler will be oriented and what your fan configuration will be. When the price/performance ratio comes int...

Looking for final feedback on my mATX mobo choices.
After long participating in the matx discussion here , it has come to this: here are my options as I see them. Please consider the following usage characteristics immutable: I will move to mATX with this build (I've invested too much too much time and money in an mATX case already). I must build wit...

Perhaps I am lacking in computer knowledge, but I don't understand how the problems Kyle listed in his conclusion translate into a flakely southbridge. Anyone? I received a reply from Gigabyte, here it is: Dear Customer, This model has been available to our OEM partners. However, late August will be...

All of the benchmarks I have seen showing the shameful USB 2.0 performance have been on boards using ATI's [in-house] SB400 Southbridge. http://www.techreport.com/reviews/2004q4/radeon-xpress200/index.x?pg=17 http://www.gamepc.com/labs/view_content.asp?id=a64cso&page=13&cookie%5Ftest=1 http://www.ga...

In my earlier post I mistakenly said this card maxed out @ 4GB due to what I read in the linked bit-tech.net post: The add-in card currently supports up to 4GB of DDR1 memory, and we understand that it is possible to link two cards together for a RAM Disk with a RAID array. That should prove to be i...

This product appeals to the geek in me, and indeed I was excited when reading the opening specs in this thread; a price point astronomically lower than similar products like the Rocket Drive, what amounts to bootable SATA, access in nanoseconds instead of milliseconds, and of course the sexy silence...

Isaac, My rig will not be entirely passive. Still, it will be more passive than the typical midtower setup housing a 120mm PSU intake above and a 120mm exhuast behind the CPU cooler. There will be only one 120mm exhaust behind my tower cooler, the top quarter of which will be ~1" directly behind it....

I've just realized a potential flaw in using the NCU-2005 perpendicular to the ground like I was planning to in my setup. I'll just quote this page @ frostytech: For the Scythe NCU-2000 to work properly inside the PC, the fins of the heatsink have to be oriented vertically. If the fins are oriented ...

This really is a tough call that comes down to case/setup specifics. Heatlane vs. Heatpipe technology; which one would perform better in the vertical position, perpendicular to the base of my case and the ground below? My tower heatsink will be positioned as you expect a real building tower to (stra...

Good timing. I was just sitting around wondering whether to get the SCNJ-1000 Ninja or the NCU-2000. Notice I said 2000; I didn't even know they had a 2005. SPCR noted the difference between the NCU-2000 and the NCU-1000 here . I wonder what the difference between the NCU-2005 and the NCU-2000 is? I...

I found this thread helpful for generating ideas about 'do-it-yourself' acoustipak alternatives. The items listed in this thread can be bought in bulk; While they are cheaper than acoustipak, however, they may not be as cheap as you're looking for.

A bit OT- Do you have any experience with this company, or did you just get them off pricewatch or something similar? 20 bucks plus shipping is a good price, depending on the shipping. edit: And while I'm here, how about the Scythe SCNJ-1000 ? Suspending Enclosed HDDs
Those with HDD enclosures like the SmartDrive and SilentBox, what is stopping you from suspending your HDDs after enclosing them? Are you satisfied with the airborne/vibrational acoustic performance of your enclosed drives whilst grommetted/screwed in your 5.25" bays? Have you tried suspending the e...

The RS482 is basically just the RS480 using a 110nm process instead of a 130nm. Aside from the minor tweaks here and there, RS482 and RS410 only differ from their predecessors by the production method. Existing Xpress 200 core logics are produced on 130nm processes, but the new chips will use 110nm....

Speaking of the Asus A8R-VM and potential typos, what is this RS48 2 chipset it is said to have? How is it different from the RS480? For my needs, I've recently decided that a seperate gfx card is no longer justifiable from a price/usage standpoint. That means all mATX nforce4 boards are out! 8) Tha...
