Re: PSU and GPU fan replacement advice needed
Thanks for the reply. :) Given a choice between warm air and 1500rpm (flipped psu with external kama 2) or cool air and 1200rpm (bottom intake psu with internal yate loon), I'd much rather go with the yate loon. I'm no expert on PSU heat tolerances, part of the reason i went with the high quality Se...

PSU and GPU fan replacement advice needed
Hi all, I've been visiting the site for a while, it's a great source of silencing info. I've recently updated my system and I could use a little advice. Here's the system setup: http://img13.imageshack.us/img13/2916/caseweb.jpg The 3 front intakes are nexus fans at 7v (~600rpm), the rear fan is a ~1...

I have 2 spinpoint p80's in raid 0, the system is used mostly for gaming and DCC work. You get a definite speed boost in some games, if only a slight boost in most. If you play battlefield 2, you'll love raid, it cuts the load time by about a third, and halves the file verification time. Whether a s...

I guess the best advice would be to drive to stoke and buy one from their shop, if there's no other nidec FDB source for sata1 samsungs in the UK. I'm definitely never ordering anything breakable from them mail-order again. They also sent me a freezer 64 cooler that arrived with a broken fan spindle...

I've updated your K8NUltra-9 bios with the nvraid 4.84 bios, if you just want to download and flash it - http://www.vapulus.com/K8NU-9.F6e.zip . Also i've written up how it's done, as you wanted to know. Ok here's a howto on replacing the nvraid bios within the main motherboard bios. Posted here so ...

From what i've heard, the silicon images raid controller has some bandwidth issues. I'll try to explain as much as i know about the issue. My own board is a gigabyte K8NS s754 nforce3 250 chipset, and only provides 2 sata ports. They're attached to the internal nforce chipset raid controller, and th...

Nice benchmark set there, for anyone wondering about different configs. I'm kind of wondering if you have a configuration problem tho, as far as the first pic on the page, the 4x Raid0 result. I'm running two 80 gig sata1 SP0812C in raid 0 and get this result (live disks though, running the installe...

Samsung SP0812C - Nidec FDB available @overclockers.co.uk
Just thought i'd make a post to say, i just ordered two Samsung P80 SP0812C 80GB SATA 8MB Cache drives from ocuk and they're Nidec FDB motors. From what i've read, good nidec sources on the SATA1 drives are hard to find. as for ocuk themselves, cowboys, lol. They once sent me a bare OEM 6800GT poste...

A64 IHS removal
So yesterday afternoon, i was googling for a good way to clean my HSF (i'd used white spirit, oops, has some oil content), when i came across this thread about IHS removal - http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/archive/index.php/t-59068-p-1.html I'm not a hardcore overclocker, i prefer a bit of silen...

Hi, i attached the fan using the four arms that linked the fan hub to the frame i cut off. You have four arms, one of which holds the wiring out of the fan blades, so i put a dab of good old superglue on the bottom tip each of the other 3 arms, and aligned the fan arms so the wires come out the bott...

Leadtek 6800GT/Ultra/NU silent mod
I've created an interesting mod to silence leadtek 6800 based graphics cards. They come with a custom copper cooler, which is called air-surround, that uses a 50mm fan. It's quieter than the standard 6800 cooler, but still loud if you care about silent computing. The main thing is it being rather la...

Arctic Freezer HSF and broken fans
Hi all, my first post here, but i'm a long time lurker, this place is a great source of info. I recently ordered an arctic freezer 64 for my s754 newcastle 3000+, based on the review here and the great value. I'd heard about the broken fan issues, and i hoped mine would arrive intact. Bad luck thoug...
