I've got a SN95G5v3. Your next 2 targets should be the PS and NB. - You can swap the PS fan for a 60mm ADDA fan. - Get a Passive Zalman NB (running without the onboard graphics you will be fine). If things start to get to hot during full load (CPU and Video) you can just fit a slightly tilted 80mm f...

Now I can keep my finger on it without burning myself. :) Those nForce 4 chipsets are just crazy hot. Thank God none of my motherboards hav...

AMD and Intel chips both have a sliding scale for power usage, but they throw every chip "core disign" into the same bracket, which is plain wrong, a 2800+ Sempron thats rated at 62W will use much less than that, and I doubt that the top of the line Sempron actually uses 62W anyway. AMD calls it "T...

For the record, shovelling snow is fun. As is freezing rain. I'd take shovelling over 35*C temperatures any day. Give me 40c over anything less than 18c. I would rather not freeze my arse off. I've seen Snow about 5 times in my life, its ok to visit but I couldnt live with the stuff. Thankfully eve...

Australia's energy star program does this. Each appliance gets a rating out of 6 stars as well as an estimated typical kW/h per year number. I think my fridge at home is ~800kW/h a year. We even have websites setup to help people buy appliances, recommendations on power savings, etc. Well it can't ...

It reminds me of my recent experience shopping for a fridge, another appliance where I valued silence and efficiency above most other criteria. I think an improvement would be not just providing a star rating, but an actual number based on assumed hours of idle/active use (kW/Hr/Yr). That way, peop...

Is there anybody who has measured the idle power comsumption? Xbitlabs compares power consumption of C2D and A64 X2 The Athlon uses less power at idle (CnQ enabled). However you could make up for the difference by turning off your PC when you are not using it; this way you can justify getting a C2D...

The controlling of fan speed is up to the bios. All of the gigabyte boards have QFan which handles it, this actually caused problems at work as one of the file servers is a 754 A64 with CnQ enabled. QFan would turn off the CPU fan the PC was idle and the bios fan Alarm would sound and the techs didn...

I think this is more complicated. Starting with the E revision I believe that AMD put microcode in the CPU that tells the software that the minimum voltage is 1.1v. However this is an artificial limit (can some dev for RMClock or Crystal confirm this?). My E3 3500+ - IS limited to 1.1v when using on...

Re: AUX 12V 4 pin cable is too short, how do I extend it?
I installed a Seasonic S12 in a P180 over the weekend and the Aux 12V cable is too much of a tight fit for my liking. I searched eBay for a 12V 4 pin extender cable but didn’t come up with anything; I did however find a P4 Molex Power Adaptor Cable ( 4 Pin ) ; is this okay to use instead of the d...

Well written review and the board is good for a low-end HTPC / kioks type machine. Had wanted to use such a solution (ie VIA C3/Eden/C7 + mini-ITX combination) for a 24x7 home file server (with terabytes of SATA RAID 5 based storage). The main draw for me towards this is the low power consumption. ...
