Re: Quiet-ish build with a Shuttle XPC SH67H3
The SH67H7 is not officially available in Australia either, however they are still easy to find if you go away from the major retailers. Most computer stores around here seem to be gray importers direct from Asia. I would be seriously surprised if you couldn't source one. You really don't want the S...

Re: Quiet-ish build with a Shuttle XPC SH67H3
Go for the SH67H7 over the H3, its the same internals with a much nicer case and should only be $20 more. http://au.shuttle.com/products/productsDetail?productId=1549 As for components, get a normal 2500 or 2400 (K's will not work on the H67 chipset), 8GB ram, a 120GB+ SSD and a 2TB green drive that...

Re: Seagate Momentus XT: The Best of Both Worlds?
Time has moved on, the SSD caching on the Z68 chipset removes the need for hybrid drives. It functions better and removes several of the downsides e.g. you can defrag. There are already a few desktop motherboards shipping with a 20GB SSD installed and a few laptops that contain the prerequisite hard...

Re: Atom VS Pentium 4 - IT IS ON!
My 2 cents. I run the following 2 PC's at home and a Windows Home Server box. Each has a single Dell 2005FPW (1680x1050) monitor + bluetooth keyboard and mouse. The PC's are literally next to each other which makes comparisons easy. Both are running Kapersky Internet Security Suite 2010 and Windows ...

Being a POW = Not a hero
Being given the opportunity to leave by your captors (due to family status) and CHOOSING to stick to the military's Code of Conduct in regards to the order of prisoner release = close to Hero.

Re: Since when is 1680x1050 resolution 1080p?
No its not, its not wide enough to display 720p. So you get squished with bars, you get bars with normal SD formats (pal and ntsc).mathias wrote:At least that's sort of comparable to 720p.dragmor wrote: Its better than the 1024x1024 plasma TV's that are being marketed as 720p.
Its a bloody useless resolution for a TV.

Re: Since when is 1680x1050 resolution 1080p?
I could understand 1366x768 being marketed as "720p", since it's more larger than 1280x720...but this 1080p thing is simply deceptive. Its better than the 1024x1024 plasma TV's that are being marketed as 720p. Just look at all the mess out there. http://advancedvisualdesign.com.au/products/visualdi...

think that Evga may have one of the best warranties. unless it's changed, their warranty still stands if you change the stock cooler. I believe this applies to XFX as well. XFX's warranty changes between regions. While North America has a life time warranty, Asia and the Pacific gets 1-2 years depe...

But will continued high temps decrease the longevity of the video card. More than likely. Maybe, but there is a usable life cycle as well, which with PC components is short, 5 to 10 years at best. I had a passive 9550 (now running in a relatives PC) since about when they came out (about 5 years ago...

Even though CFL's have mercury, the amount of energy you save by replacing an incandescent light bulb with a cfl of equal light intensity, during the lifetime of the bulb, is so much, that producing that amount of energy by coal will release MORE mercury in the air at the power plant (tiny amount o...

I still think the memory vs CPU voltage is hit and miss. I remember lots of talk about it on socket 939 with the 90nm CPU's and high end memory, but the only people I knew that burnt out CPU's were running memory voltage in the 3.2v+ range. I've been running 0.8v CPU and 2.8v memory for the last 3-4...

Yeah but if you purchase a new nvidia motherboard with your expensive graphics card it will be, Load = 240W, Idle = 0w. Since the new nvidia boards can turn off the discrete card and use the onboard. But if you have an intel chipset then your out of luck. The next gen AMD/ATI's released in June are ...
