Re: WD Green vs. WD Red for quietness?
I wish I had found this thread earlier. The "new" WD Reds are awful. Even with one drive the seek noise is annoying but when you load a NAS with them it is unbearable. As has already been mentioned, this is made worse by the "background scan" noise every 10 seconds or so which means they are never q...

I am really surprised there are so few posts about this. I don't mind the noise at boot, it is the recalibration "racket" every so often (mine seems less than 40 minutes). EVERY recent Samsung does this (F2, F3). They even changed something in the firmware for later F1 batches since earlier F1s did ...

I also have the "rattling sound" on two F2 drives, just like in the recording. It seems to be firmware related because I just bought an F1 7200 Samsung drive (dated 2009.06) and that also has this noise. Other F1 drives I have with earlier firmware do not have this issue. All drives pass the ESTool ...

I've got AHCI set in the BIOS and I have reinstalled Windows Vista SP1 64-Bit. It didn't ask for any drivers and detected the drives fine. I think this may be the problem. You have to install the Intel drivers during installation even if Windows can see the drive. Otherwise it will be using non-opt...

Has anyone re-checked their AAM setting after a reboot? I have used both the Hitachi Feature Tool and WinAAM to change the AAM value from 254 to 128 (recommended), which appears to work. It makes a noticeable difference to the seek noise. However, after a reboot, the AAM value always goes back to 25...

You were lucky you ordered 2 drives from ocuk. I ordered one and it was sent in a standard Jiffy bag with no additional protection! Two sides of the drive were bashed in and looked like someone had bounced it off the floor  Needless to say I sent it back and ordered from somewhere that knew h...

Scratched P180 Panel
Just received my silver P180 only to find the left side panel is badly scratched :x I have e-mailed Antec in the hope they will replace just the side panel without having to RMA the entire case. Edit: On closer inspection, the right side panel also has marks on it; some of the silver appears to be s...

I have been looking at the pictures of the P180 but cannot work out where the power and hard disk LEDs are
Has anyone got a picture with them on?
