It is not possible to get an object below the temperature of its surroundings by convective/conductive transder. Newton's law of cooling (a simplified model of the system here) states that Q=kdT. k is some constant, Q is the heat transferred and dT is the temperature difference. As the difference in...

Well on a superficial level I think that Al is a lot more machinable than copper (I know cause I HATE tapping Cu, unless I have the right tap forming bit). This being said, Al alloys tend to be a lot harder than copper. Transporting shaped Al requires much less packing than shaped Cu. Making the HS ...

Can say that the Chieftec midi dragon server case has too much ventilation. Ended up sealing the 2 rear fan slots and the lower front one (the one not in front of HD). Temps are CPU:45C Case:37C overnight on Sandra.

Details of my rig on the other chieftec case thread

I have the DX-01WD. My box as silent as the central air, which is inaudible. I have a series of layers on the inside of the case, which are not nessecary for a quiet system, but I wanted to fool around =). I have a 1mm thick sheet of aluminium (easier to shear to size) stuck to 4mm of ShoreA 40A har...

FeO3 instead of FeO2. I think that cutting torch slag might do the trick, but I'm not 100% sure. Actually, right and wrong. Household rust is a mixture of FeO and Fe2O3 (I'm sure you just forgot the 2 after Fe). The thermite reaction will proceed with either iron, but stoichiometry may be off resul...

By having a junction of different materials you are creating a difference in electron potentials across the junction. Doing the calculation based on ground state potentials, it is safe to say that unless you have large amounts of exposed *pure* aluminum or tin, you are unlikely to have sensible degr...

Supplier of dampening materials

I have been a lurker for a while and had time today to finally register and post something =) A place with a wide variety of any kind of material needed is Mcmaster-Carr. They sell everything that a production plant could ever use (emergency glucose packs to high viscosity backlit rotameters). There...

Been a lurker for a while, but thought I would point out a place that has the separate ducts. Caveat is that they are OOS.
