Re: enermax modu 82+ noisy fan
I recently switched to a new case (Raven 2) and started to wonder why the hell is my new build so loud. After a bit of wondering I realized that the Enermax PSU's fan makes all the noise in my pc! When I stop the fan everything is suddendly quiet. What a crap quality, I never had a quality fan fail,...

Re: Silverstone Fortress FT03 microATX Tower
They should have fit a 18cm air penetrator on bottom. Optical drive on top/mounted sideways, PSU sideways for smaller footprint. Now it feels a bit kludgy...
In fact they should have dumped the whole optical drive and let people use whatever drive they need once in a few years to install Windows.

Re: Cooler Master Cosmos II Ultra Tower Case - silent?
Holes in cases aren't that bad actually. It depends on situation. If you don't have mechanical HD's it may be a better idea to build an open, well-ventilated case with big fans. With good ventilation the fans don't need to spin that much so they don't make a lot of noise. Examples of this are Silver...

Re: Stopping vibrations - Antec 100
Adding mass to the case may help. I bought self-adhesive 40x50cm Nikesound bitumen mats from local auto parts store for 20€. Decoupling hard drives with elastic band (black 1,5cm wide was 1,2€/m) helps too. I did both on my Silverstone Raven 2 and the case resonates a lot less now :P Edit: Nexus Dou...

Re: Stock 2600k + Noctua NH-U9B SE2 = 60°C
Well the Silverstone's case has very good airflow and Intel cpu's have so good power management that the CPU doesn't warm up that much when idling. My i7 920@3.2GHz is idling at 28C with Noctua NH-U12P with the golfball exhaust fan mounted on the heatsink, at 5V. With Prime95 temps are around 60C. T...

Re: Noctua NF-F12 "Focused Flow" PWM Fan
I got two Noctua fans with Noctua NH-U12P heatsink back in the day. Don't remember the model but the noise the fans made sure was annoying. Ticking and all that... I got a ridiculously good price from the fans though so I'm not really complaining

Re: FT02 Top Fan (120mm)
I removed it. I saw no point in it really since the case is meant for positive air pressure cooling anyways.
The fan felt reasonably quiet though so I used it on my CPU heatsink @5V to reduce max load temps.

Re: Is there a case that gives me everything? Quiet, cool,
I owned a Raven RV02 and was able to passively cool an HD5850 with an arctic cooling aftermarket heatsink and an E8400 with a large heatsink. The rotated mobo design of the Raven is simply excellent for cooling graphics cards. If I had a bit more money before I would definitely have bought an FT02 ...

Re: Fractal Design XL vs Antec P180
Thanks for the info! Using grommets from my P180 may be a good idea then. Local shop sells bitumen mats etc. which are good for adding mass and blocking unwanted holes in the case

Re: FT02 Hard Drive Mounts
This is coming a bit late but anyways..
The hd mounts are terrible and transfer every seek and vibration lound and clear. I'd suspend them, in fact there should be enough room to do it in place of those hot-swappable HD trays if you want to use the 5,25" slots for something else.

Fractal Design XL vs Antec P180
So I bought the P180 in 2005(?) when it was released. It is a nice case but with a few shortcomings: no cable management horrible hdd management no room for enough hd's longer gfx cards don't fit unless you remove the upper hdd tray(s) I've been eyeballing Fractal Design's XL case. The design princi...

Re: Antec 280 OMG!
First priority for me is noise. P180 I bought 6 yers ago is still the king, so P280 has nothing to offer. Building a new PC takes some time (3rd build going now) but it's worth it.

I finally bought Enermax Modu82+ 625W. It solved messy cabling issues and all the extra noises coming from PSU. This is what you get when you try to do "future-proof" purchases... like with Seasonic. The power supply is like 3½ years old, so it's not under warranty anymore. I've removed a few hd's and swapped the graphics card to lower power model, and the noise has seemingly decreased considerably. It's a lot less irritating now, since it only whines constantly and doesn't produce any random e...

Old Seasonic S12 600W is noisy with new PC
Hello, I upgraded my X2 4400+ to Core i7 920. I'm still using the same PSU from old build, Seasonic S12 600W. Problem is, that now it randomly makes squealing noises and buzzes among other annoying noises. At least I *think* the noises are coming from my psu, not from graphics card, motherboard or s...

What's the point of 12X1TB raid? Wouldn't something like 3x 4x1TB or 2x 6x1TB be more reliable? Granted, you'd lose 1-2TB more space, but I would not personally like to see all of the data disappear when two drives fail simultaneously. With more than one array you have a greater chance that the simu...

Changing case fans or perhaps something else?
I've been wondering if there's still something I could do to make my old warhorse quieter than it is now, but I can't come to a decision myself. So.. My current configuration follows: X2 4400+ 7800GTX Motherboard with heatpipe Seasonic S12 600W .. and 5 hard disks :) inside Antec P180. 4 hd's on low...

I bought two WD5000AAKS disks, put them to raid1. They are on lower disc bay on Antec P180, suspended with the default grommets. They don't vibrate nearly at all, and I don't hear the seek noises unless I really concentrate on hearing them. No extra whines whatsoever. Anyways, these WD's are a lot m...

It's supposedly 3-platter mode. Also pictures from 160GB model suggest these new AA drives have different and smaller control circuit, and shiny metallic exterior instead of the previous black one. SMART warning after silencing my HD's, pending problems?
I bought P180 and decided to do some hd silencing. Well, it seems to work fine, except Smart reports that Spin up time is pretty poor on the 7200rpm Maxtor and under threshold on the 5400rpm Maxtor. Is that caused because the drive is just hanging in the air and doesnt get any real support, or did I...
