Further update, if anyone is interested, despite the response I got here is that I went for the gigabyte board, as I'd heard reports that the ASUS board has a northbridge heatsink which runs very hot - possibly requiring a fan under passive conditions! I will see how I get on with the fan control. T...

Hi, yes I will probably fit another drive if its not too noisy. I probably will get an E8400 but I have other problems at the moment in choosing. I've spent most of the last week researching motherboards. And all of this weekend from waking until sleep time. I've done nothing else - my life is on ho...

Thanks for the helpful replies and info on the 4580e 2.5Ghz CPU. I have spent a few more days doing research. I decided that if I stick with the AMD route the Asus M2N-VM DVI and 4580e will be the one to go for with integrated graphics. That low price, power consumption and heat of this system is at...

Thanks for the reply. I've had a look at the TDP of both chips but I've found a few articles that say that AMD and Intel have been measuring and quoting them differently, making it hard to compare them. So I'm quite confused about it! All I do know though is that the Intel chip is almost twice the p...

Could this be the quietest pre built system to date?
Hi guys Has anyone seen the Fujitsu-Siemens ESPRIMO P5925? It claims noise specs of 17dBA !! with CPU 90% load (Blue angel requirement). A weighted sound power level Lwad (in B) / Workplace related A-weighted sound pressure level LpAm (in dB(A)), (bystander position) (ISO9296 http://sp.fujitsu-sieme...

Thanks for the reply. I have looked into suspending the drives or standing them on foam. Problem I have is that its a Dell, so I can't remove both side panels to get proper access to put in the elastic. I have tried moving the drive to the Floppy slot. Noise was as bad, or worse. Also tried mounting...

Samsung Spinpoint and Seagate Barrucuda noise problem
Hi all I have just bought a new Spinpoint 250 GB SATA. I have installed it into a Dell Dimension 5000 which already had a Barrcuda fitted. In these Dell pcs there are plastic 'snap on' brackets that slide and snap into the chassis. This Dell was the quietest PC I've had .....until now. Now when the ...
