And please define "obsolete". "640kB is more than anyone will ever need." And how can you spec such a system today? I'd think about it like this; instead of spending 1000$ now, spend 500$ now, and 500$ in 4 years. I agree. I say there's nothing wrong with the power of an eee box for mom/dad use, al...

For a normal medium-to-high performance system, Intel wins. For low-power HTPC, AMD all the way. That's only due to chipset design however...780G is a god-send for onboard HD playback. It allows you to use a slower, cooler processor and no GPU. I agree. I think AMD still has a market for affordable...

Thanks Michael. I thought about raising hell with Enermax, blasting them on various forums including this one, but looked at my credit card statements and couldn't find the line showing my purchase and smiled. I've tidied up my cabling inside the Solo, but I bought a bolt-thru kit for my Ninja...

I've got the Modu82+ 425W that I won from the draw. Next to the Scythe Slipstream 120mm fan in the Antec Solo, turned down to ~730rpm using a Fanmate, I can only hear the Scythe and not the PS. However, I'm trying to read the fan speed of my Modu82+ 425w. Using it with my Asrock Conroe954G-DVI, I ca...

Holy crap, the Asus WL500G Premium looks perfect. Newegg's got them for $69. Reading reviews... That's a good choice for a simple website. I hosted pictures using a similar Linksys WRTSL54GS router and a USB hard drive. Performance for web browsing by friends/family isn't going to be a big deal - t...

Great! Looks like this may work out nicely after a bit of hacking with xorg.conf. Thanks for testing!pfft wrote:The end result is a nice looking desktop and video up to dvd resolution looking good as well. I haven't tried anything more demanding.

Has anyone tried this as a MythTV Frontend? The version with s-video would make a nice cheap frontend.
If you already have a MythTV setup, this can be tested easily with Mythbuntu. Using Mythbuntu 7.10 (www.mythbuntu.org), I've been able to get a frontend up and running in ~20 minutes!

I have a Zalman 7000 with the S775 adapter on a Asrock Conroe945G-DVI mb in my Aria. Tight fit. gudmann, what's your case temp? My Aria case is about 43C idle, CPU is about 50 at core using the Zalman 7000. I think the lack of airflow in the case is the reason the case and CPU stays hot. I'm with yo...

The problems with G33's graphics are: only one DVI output, the other would go through add-in ADD2 card and they have limited resolutions (1600x1200) and the ones that don't are hard to find. Plus the adapter itself is documented to not allow more than 1600x1200 in 3D accelerated mode and I wanted t...

I have a E6300 running at stock speed. I also used both the stock HSF and a Zalman CNPS7000B. My E6300 is running on a Asrock Conroe945G-DVI board in an Antec Aria case. Due to poor case cooling, the inside of the Aria gets pretty warm. I was not able to control the PWM fan speed on the stock HSF, a...

I've had the Aria for 1.5 years, so I'll share my experience. Initially, I had a Sempron64 2500+ Palermo with the stock heatsink and a Zalman fan controller. Fanless Radeon 9600, 2 hard drives. Loudest fan was the Antec stock power supply's 120mm fan. System ran at a decent temp. I seem to recall mi...

I'm also a non-gamer, so I'll share what I know. I have an Asus A8N-VM CSM Socket 939 mb that I built a year ago as an HTPC, and everything I need is onboard (except for TV Tuner, of course). I'm not a gamer, so spending on a discrete video is a waste of money. However, I wanted DVI on-board, and th...

Thanks. I figured the 90nm cpu will be cooler. The 2500+ will likely be used in another machine, so I won't be transfering it to the HTPC. However, good thought on undervolting it - any chance I can get by with the stock heatsink passively? Also, do you think it's better (again from a cooling/noise ...

Which S754 runs cooler? Sempron 64 or A64 Newcastle 3000+
I'm looking for a CPU for my HTPC which will be based on a Socket 754 motherboard. I have a Sempron 64 2500+ right now - didn't realize it doesn't support Cool 'n Quiet until after the purchase. Given the choice, will a Sempron 64 3000+ (Palermo @ 90nm) be cooler, or an Athlon 64 3000+ (Newcastle @ ...
