Ok, also you can try undervolting each speedstep state (I think NHC also does this but I prefer RMclock). You should be able to run the chip 100% stable at lower than default voltages. I undervolt my laptop with it (not the desktop as it's overclocked!) and it makes a significant difference in temp...

The speed management is done by windows, as long as you set the computer type as Laptop/portable, and select a power scheme that allows the scaling. To monitor the speed, I've been using NHC, http://www.pbus-167.com/chc.htm Thank you for the link, I've downloaded that program and am trying to figure...

Core Duo's USB bug applies to Dothan in a desktop.
I've got a question about sleep states and the inability to get into C3 with a Dothan in a desktop. (Its probably not completely necessary, since a desktop has no battery to worry about, besides a UPS, but this desktop is more of an experiment in power consumption & heat dissipation, so it seems val...

Thanks for the comments, I guess it's not that big of a deal, since it's stable. With more testing I managed to get it up to 57C at the heatsink with a completely sealed case and no airflow. Still within Intel's spec, but man is that hot to touch! (EDIT: Through testing, I found the i915GMm-HFS "sys...

Sorry if this has already been covered, (and I hope I've posted this in the right place.) I've searched for a few HOURS and did not find what I needed to know. 8) Does anyone know what a safe temperature for the northbridge and southbridge in an i915GMm-HFS? Having a Zalman 7000 with a nexus fan kee...

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone. :D See what gets started when I focus my attention outside of a computer tower for 5 seconds! 8) I don't deal with AC electric much as you can tell. Found a good write up on PF on page 3 of this APC document, for anyone that may be interested. ftp://www.apcmedi...

Your PSU does not have Active PFC. This means the current draw from the AC outlet is much higher than it would be with APFC. You are measuring VA or apparent power with your setup, not W, which in AC are not the same. VA does not reflect the true power (watts) that the PSU is actually drawing. If w...

Yeah, I'm using the onboard VGA via the DVI hookup. I tried unhooking the hard drive and dvd already, and booting into the bios. The current draw on the AC side is the same as with them hooked up, (around 90 watts). I tried disconnecting the mobo's connectors (the 20pin, and the 4pin) and switched t...

Yeah, its definitely really strange.... I'm using a decent (Extech) multimeter, tested with a lamp that has a 60 watt bulb. The lamp came out to around 57 watts. The multimeter is hooked up, intercepting the hot wire (the one running from the upper right prong of a standard socket), and readings wer...

Man am I glad I found this place.... :D I realize the topic is currently about temps & video, but this is the only place I know to ask this.... I recently built one of these up and I can't get below 76 watts at idle (at 800Mhz, .98v). I don't get it. It pulls 15 watts, while it's OFF! P-M 760, i915G...
