Re: Is Lian Li PC-B10 silent?
I own this case and to me this case is quiet. I have 8 WDC Greenpower drives in there and I don't hear any clicks or whine. The fans need to be controlled with a controller or MB based silent fan solution (Asus EPU for example). I actually use my i5 655K with a large heatsink and no fan. It's been v...

In a word: no. I have a Lian Li V2100 with 8 7200 RPM hard drives (Samsung and Maxtor). I tried to identify where the noise came from and stopped every single fan except for the PSU (Seasonic S12 500W, very quiet), and it wouldn't get much quieter. The hard drives seem to make a lot of noise. The i...

so you review articles to please the mfgrs, no to inform your readers? I'm confused... Yeah, me too. It's kinda good to get informed about bad products too. slimeballzz, rei and other would easily see what the product is capable of if the review was published instead of this posting and waiting for...

1" neoprene to hold a 5" square fan inside a 7" diameter duct. But maybe for the inner divider mount the fan gasket would be enough, but still it does almost nothing IMHO. Maybe I should get acoustic foam for the panels instead of neoprene. 1. Are you saying 1" thick neoprene? 2. I think getting ac...

Any engineers here know if we can use this second calculator to design a vented enclosure: http://www.mh-audio.nl/Bandpass.asp I put: vent diameter = 12cm (for 120mm fan) tuning frequency = 45Hz enclosure volume = 120l or 4.24 Cu Ft. 3 vents (for 3 fans) I got vent length = 33.3cm or about 1 foot lo...

Home Server Hushing - a scientific approach
I see a lot of posts here about 1 or 2 drives and most of the posts are oriented towards hushing seeks. The requirements for home server hushing are completely different. Firstly the number of drives involved tends to be 4-24 drives. So there the approaches need to be different for this sort of ende...

^^^ Totally agree. It's easy to generate a bunch of numbers without any real meaning and it seems to happen very often in the silent PC business. Every time I look at fan CFM vs. noise numbers I feel like laughing. I feel like laughing even more when people cite those numbers. Same for audio. These ...

I have seen no evidence that write cycles are an issue for desktop/laptop machines running a modern SSD. My argument is that hard drives in general are not perfectly reliable, so a backup strategy is very important. Flash drives are supposed to only last for 10 years, which is a bigger 'problem' th...

http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/40134050 It's only $80 or one-third of a Lian-Li. I could keep it simple and forgo the ductwork and just put the fans in the divider with neoprene surrounds. 1. Are you sure you sent me the right link? That is a book shelf with no doors. That doesn't seem ...

I've had a number of cases, and neither the provided mounting or any modification I made could remove all of the HD vibrations. So, I decided to take a more radical approach: http://i388.photobucket.com/albums/oo329/sadbuttru/th_top.jpg http://i388.photobucket.com/albums/oo329/sadbuttru/th_back.jpg...

Thanks for the replies. The PWM ticking was an issue with an old ATI x800. Plugging directly into both the PSU and a fan controller failed to fix the problem then either. I run the fans @5v direct from the PSU, so no PWM involved. They also click at 12v from the PSU. I guess it could just be bad lu...

I thinking of dropping an Antec Skeleton case in there instead of fastening everything with velcro. I could put the whole thing on a thick foam pad. I've gone a little and devised this overkill "solution": Figured out some ductwork options. I see. Very clever. Put all the fans inside and just make passive filtered inlets and outlets. Thanks for your suggestion. I think you're right that I should pick tried and true fans even if they are smaller. As for resonances, that's where I might need to do some acoustic research that may be beyon...

Fast Overclocked Gaming PC but quiet - how? I have an idea.
I built myself a Home Server with 8 drives and I've come to the conclusion that come what may you simply can't silence 8 things spinning a disk at 5400-7200RPM. The whine will always be audible. So I put the whole thing in a kitchen cabinet. No more noise. Now I could do this with my 4Ghz overclocke...

The 80+ Bronze certificate requires a minimum of 82%, 85% and 82 % when running at 20 %, 50% and 80% load , respectively. SPCR's review shows that the Value 430 have an efficiency of about 80%, 83% and 82% . That's not really a big difference. Slight error -- it's 100% load. Nexus 430 misses 80% --...
