I found that arctic silver worked a lot better for me than other pastes. However, that thing you write about "a small amount in the center worries me. I learned that you should apply a thin, even layer over the entire thing. The paste evidently fills the invisible little ridges and valleys that othe...

Very fun.

But how long IS the battery supposed to last in case of a power outage?

And one thing I have wondered about this--newb question here too--why don't they use the kind of ram that is used in usb ramdisks? That doesn't even need a power supply.

Well, there is that... But I was thinking, rather than the "conventional steam generator" that the page talks about, more along the lines of someday capturing the energy of the liquid's motion itself as it travels along the pipe. Of course, when you harvest the energy, the liquid (or gas) will not m...

Hmmm, that is one hell of an interesting system. It almost seems like some variation of it could eventually be used to generate electricity. I don't know, from liquid moving between a sunlit spot and a shady spot. or, er, something like that... God, I've got to do something about this tiredness! And...

One thing I have wondered about these tower coolers with heatpipes: Don't heatpipes work best with some degree of vertical orientation? If so, then in your typical tower case, Ninja et al aren't going to be as efficient as they could be, since the pipes will run parallel to the floor. Has anyone tri...

My wrists and had begun hurting recently, but this seems to have taken care of it. And it's quiet. AND it gets comments becasue it looks so wierd. Come to think of it, I suppose that last bit does raise the decibel level a bit

I just love it.

Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe: New Find

I live in Tokyo, and on a recent trip to Akihabara (the electronics mecca), I found this: SNE: (in Japanese, sorry) It is an active, Northbridge cooler, with the same profile as the noisy one that comes with the board, but which only spins at a max of about 4500 rpms. The aluminum one has a larger f...

What KIND of noise is it?

Like wind rushing through a screen?
Whining? Squeeking?

All of the above?

The answer to that should help you localize some of the noise.

Or at least it did for me.

Wow, something I can actually contribute to! Thanks. I got the original stacker a year ago, and while it is an older box, it has many similarities to yours I'm specifically thinking about the back-panel configuration: It has given up the space for two 12-cm fans at the top back that they tried with ...

THanks. I agree about replacing the motherboard, but I'm going to hold off on that for a while. I don't really like replacing parts piecemeal like that. It feels so great to have a totally new system. It feels almost as good as a new set of underwear. And what I really would love to find is a heatpi...

A8N-SLI Deluxe Fan

I'm running an Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe with twin 6600gts, and thanks to you guys, have the system quiet enough that I forget it is on from time to time. The one component that needs work is the chipset fan. The fan on this thing is evidently infamous, whirling away at over 8000 rpm. I've been lucky in t...

Those are some pretty sweet-looking waterblocks. You actually got me thinking, which is a difficult thing to do lately. If you are going to WC the GPU, then I can't see much difference between the two, as far as tube routing goes. Either way, the tubes have got to jump the GPU. But let us know how i...

Re: ASUS A8N-SLi chipset and Reserator advice

Hi there, I've been lurking and reading everything I can here, before I delve into building myself a nice and quiet machine. The resources here have been a great help. I've finally settled on all of the components in the system I want to put together. Right now I dont have plans to overclock, but I...

As usual, we end up in a debate what can be considered quiet :-) Why are you going to go w/c? For cooling performance alone or for silent operation? Nowadays you can build a really really quiet computer with air cooling and lose the hazzle that comes with w/c. At least waaay quieter than any 7V fan...

Marci: That's not a bad idea at all. The Stacker already has an oblong vent in the bottom that I currently have blocked off to control airflow direction. (I was amazed when blocking it lowered the sum of my system's parts by about two degrees. Yes, I AM new at this...) It would make for a dead-easy ...

And there's the answer. You're the Marci that I've seen (I think) on ProCooling and other expert forums, aren't you. It's good to have your input. So, once this house-moving thing is all squared away, I'll probably run a duct along the bottom of the case, with my 2 drives at the front and the PA160/...

Thanks so much, guys. I've got the original Stacker, which means that it is impossible to put the 2x12 up at the back of the case. The only other options are to either run 1 12cm rad and one 2x8 rad, or to run a 2x12 out of the front of the case, warming my knees in winter and giving me extra sweat ...

One Radiator or Two?

This is my first post, so if I sound stupid, go easy on me. :) I have an SLI gaming system based around the Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe and two 6600gts. It’s housed in a CM Stacker (one of the original ones that were for some reason designed to take power supplies at both the top and bottom.) I am tired of ...
