I have velcro at work so I'll try it anyway just to find out. I'm thinking the contact between the plastic and fabric parts of the strips will not transfer vibrations very easy. Has anyone tried it? What's a good material to use, that's easily available in shops? Is there a 4-500GB HD that together ...

HD(s) for A-tech HTPC
I'm building my first HTPC in an A-tech 4000 EX case, and the time has come to make decisions in the storage department. The configuration of the case leaves room for a stack of three 3.5" HDs in the corner. That room looks just big enough to suspend two 3.5" HDs vertically. Using my ordinary comput...

Bump for old threads :p Going to start building a new one with Seasonic 330W soon, will post again when done. Meanwhile I can say that I fix computers for a large company which used to have like 5000 of one particular model computer. That model had a PSU rated at 95W running 1GHz pentium with mobo, ...

Cutting the copper I think is a bad idea. Heat moves like current, if you cut the fins down to 0.5mm at one place the resistance will be much greater, reducing the overall performance of the HS. Soldering the twisted parts might help a little. Another theory: Looking at the picture with the 120mm mo...

Thanks for the replies, I'm learning new things every day here at SPCR :) I havent decided on CPU yet, but A64 4000+, P4 660 and P-D 830 are within budget. I guess the best way to find out what I need is to run the stock fan @5V (18°C Rise, 22dBA) and see if temp is comfortable, and if so do the mod...

Sorry if this is a "stupid" question, but when it says "°C Rise: Temperature rise above ambient at load", does that mean lower numbers are better? When comparing the stock and the Nexus fan, it seems the stock one has more airflow @ 5V than the Nexus has @ 12V. When used in a system with a hotter CP...

I agree Sparkytfl, that's a pretty clean way to do it. When upgrading you can just attach the old cables again. If you ever have to make any cables longer, just cut the old wire at different lengths (so the splices are not all at one place, making the cable very thick at that point), solder on new w...

Modular PSU for HTPC
Hi, I was wondering if there are any modular PSUs today that are really quiet and suitable for a HTPC? Also I'm wondering if the cables you attach to the PSU come in many different lengths and are sleeved? I searched this forum for modular PSUs, but didnt find any recent posts about it. In the Norwe...
