I spoke too soon. Hammefall DSP (RME)has PCIe cards already released: HDSPe I don't know how well they are considered, since I haven't seen most people use them... but... they are available. http://www.rme-audio.de/en_products_overview_pci_express.php?page=content/products/en_products_overview_pci_e...

The issue with forgoing the PCIe boards, is that you really limit your options on video-cards. With realtime MPEG-4 decoding taking significant video power to decode. The other issue that conserns me with forgoing a PCIe board is that many consumer audio solutions are going PCIe. I would expect that...

Thanks....

I've thought about the shelf as well...but the finding a illiuminated keyboard that fits and doesn't suck is pretty hard.

The reason for rackmounting is that the whole rig is portable...so I can quickly unload from my truck, plug in, and be ready to roll as quickly as possible.

Rackmpount Keyboard

Any recommendations for a rackmount keyboard that is illiuminated?

Just need something to run the machine that I can see in the dark. I have thought about running LED lights to turn on... but I think backlighting would be cleaner.

You can undervolt without using a fan controller, though a fan controller is very nice in tuning the fan speed to the lowest level required. I don't think anyone can give you a percise CFM that you should be shooting for, it depends on the load and abient conditions that you expect. That Q9300 TDR i...

If there are any requests that people want to make, please feel free to do so. I plan on showing pictures with the rig installed and operating. (Maybe post a Utube video?). I don't have a SPL meter like mikeC, but perhaps I could get a Radio Shack one if people are interested. I will be able to reco...

The thing that conserns me about the Take 3 is that there is only one 92mm rear fan (the side 120mm fan will be useless, since that is obstructed). Even so, I take your point... the 92mm fan will push more air at lower dBA than 2 60mm fans. Stil quite expense though vs. other cases. One of the quest...

Big reason for a rackmount case is that I'm going to put it in a rack, a DJ case/rack. Basically I have my turntables/CDs/Amps/Lightbar/UPS/etc all in a portable rack (w/ casters so I can move it around) and I want to put the computer in it as well for portability. This minimizes my set up/tear down...

Thank you gentlemen for your feedback. I am going to stay with win xp (32bit). Microsofts EOL really bothers me, since I have not seen that Vista provides the same reliability as XP for DJ/recording. This really bothers me... but at least downgrading is still available. It sounds like EMU1212 is a g...
4GB of RAM - plenty for average work, however I'd say that brand does matter. cheap RAM is a no-no. nearly all your plug-ins will run through the RAM until a final mix is created. the more RAM, the better performance you'll get out of your app
Do you run a 64x OS? Re: DJ/Recording Rackmount

For a quiet studio rig, that single 60mm fan automatically disqualifies the case. No way you can get effective quiet cooling with 60mm fans -- never mind just one. Ok... thanks, I was hoping anyway that the 60mm fan would have been sufficent since I'm just running integrated graphics. But given you...
