Re: SFF gaming rig on a budget

I just built a SFF using the Thermaltake Core V1 and it's pretty damn good. Case could be smaller and the 200mm fan is a little 'whooshy' very late at night but overall I'm impressed.

No it should be fine if what u mean by door is my definition. It doesnt really need a direct path to outside air because it sucks it though all the little holes in the case.

Thanks a lot! The backplate doesnt quite fit correctly (i know, i know crappy case) so removing it would be a good idea. What would you reccomend as being the best way to undervolt a fan that is already connected to the PCB? Ive read mods that require putting some sort of thing on the + line that ta...

I have am AMD XP2400+ with a Coolermaster X-Dream. It is currently a FX5200 passively cooled, but im looking to (lol) upgrade to a FX5600 with a VGA silencer i found on a website. Id like to leave the 80mm PSU fan in just in case of failure of other fans. With this kind of setup will i only need a 1...

Why are you getting a crossfire motherboard if you are using a 6600GT? And im not sure if a ninja can cool that CPU, why not just add a silent 120mm fan to it? Otherwise its a pretty nice setup.

As a general rule:

Bigger fans = more air at lower speed

So yes if you want to enter the crazy world of case modding (trust me it wont stop at the fans :P) then this sounds like a good idea. I would only have one 92mm fan though because two might not fit. It would definately be quieter tho.

Well it is an 80mm exhaust on the PSU *not downward facing* and im planning to put a 120mm fan on the front of the case.

My friend suggested to put a 120mm blowhole fan at the top near the PSU intakes as this would send air through the case and upwards over CPU/RAM/Nbridge. Does this sound ok?

Hey sounds like a good system, but i would reccomend a nVidia based system. The DFI LANPARTY UT nF4 SLI-DR Expert is a great board but im not sure where you live or what your budget is.

Yeah i was planning on cutting 2 60mm holes in it but wasnt sure as to whether to duct them or just stick with the 60mm fans.

As for buying a new case...well id rather get the parts that would make the stuff inside work :P

Adapters or 60mm fans?

Hey all, id like some advice on what to do with my case. There is currently not enough room at the back for a 80mm fan unless i do some hardcore metalwork, which i dont feel like doing right now. Here are some pics: http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f185/Killgore06/Top.jpg http://i47.photobucket.com...

I think (but am not sure) that the new heatpipe heatsinks are for X2 and FX only. I got a 3200+ yesterday, and it has the old one (but maybe it was on the shelf for 1-2 months). Ok i remember reading about it somewhere else but i cant quite remember which CPU it was. I have a whole drawer full of P...

The new AMD stock heatsinks look pretty good and you could easily swap the fan out with not much effort. Go for an onboard video solution. It wont make any difference unless you are trying to play far cry and watch HDTV at the same time. But since you arnt a gamer i will assume you wont be doing tha...

A duct mod is really easy to do, i did it with the cardboard from my motherboard case! A few zip ties and some duct tape and it was ready to go. Just make sure you measure it right otherwise there is gonna be a heap of trouble when you try to put it in.

I would love to have a x1300 in my pc. If you ever wanted to play games on it that would be fine, because i ran Couterstrike Source on my FX5200 and it was playable. The graphics card does not have a huge impact on decoding video (unless it has features that are supposed to speed up decoding) and it...

Zip ties and duct/electrical tape are your friends here. Take unused cables and send them round the back of the motherboard tray.

And yes that P180 is a fine example of good cable management. Looks cool too :P

Uhh a few problems. When i removed the wires which was easy (thanks) i ran them off a 9V battery and the fan worked fine. However when i placed the header back into the motherboard with the monitoring wire still atached the bios reported 0RPM on the fan. Any ideas on why it would be doing this?

Removing 3 Pin headers

I am currently in the proccess of modding my PC and would like to run the CPU fan at 7 volts to lessen the noise it is making. The idea i had was to run the red and black wires from the fan to an old fan molex pass-through that had been modified with the 7 volt trick. This would - in theory - allow ...
