Upgrading opinions needed
Hi, First off, let me apologize for the long post. I'm not exactly a noob, but I'm seriously out of touch with the latest hardware. My last build was 7 years ago, though I did upgrade some stuff now and then. So my ancient pc finally decided to call it quits after a long relocation move. Did some tr...

I just got myself a 625W. Very straightforward and painless install. My old Scythe Ninja fan is now the loudest component in my case. Here are some pros and cons as I see it - Pros: - Very quiet 90% of the time. I had to shine a torch in to make sure the fan was spinning. I can only hear it when I p...

jjr, so I guess you have measured the case internals for the allowance? Not to get your hopes up or anything, but I did a search and found the Ninja and Centurion 540/541 being sold as a complete system in some Japanese silent pc site: http://www.vspec-bto.com/bto/bto-silent-4.htm Translated with Go...

Hi ! I am considering a Ninja in a CM 540/541 case. Those are supposed to be 18cm wide. From the indications in this thread I guess it shouldn't fit .... :-( Can anyone confirm ? Thanks in advance Best way to estimate is to measure the distance from the top of the CPU to the side panel. The ninja w...

I'm like you. Not so ready to give up on Seagate yet. If Seagate is your thing, you might want to look out for those that are "Made in Singapore". From what I've been reading so far, most of the complaints are from those which were made in China or Thailand, and those with the Singapore drives were ...

It's going to be tough to troubleshoot since there have been so many major changes. MB is probably ok, same for the new RAM if you can see them detected during bootup. Did you check the BIOS for bootup options for devices/video/etc? Did booting up from the CD work? The "repair" option might be of so...

The layout of this mb might pose problems for some. Especially around the IDE connectors if you plan to install the fan right on top of them. There's possibly about 50mm of clearance from the base of the Ninja to the point where the heatpipes and fins flare out. If you look at the side profile of th...

Here's some specs I found for the 2 fans in question: Scythe Ninja Plus 120mm Fan (@12V) - 1200 rpm - 46.5 CFM - 23.5 dBA Nexus 120mm D12SL-12 (@12V) - 1000 rpm - 36.87 CFM - 22.8 dBA I have a Ninja Plus too and I'll probably switch out the original fan for a Nexus once I have time to go shopping fo...

The 6V trick will work great for you. It'll make a world of a difference. I don't think you really need the additional cooling from changing both to 92mm fans, plus it's a pain to dismantle everything to enlarge the holes. Two 92mm fans might be overkill. I'd try just one 92mm (or 120mm) fan at low ...

Thanks for the mini review. My flatmate has the PCI-E version of the Sapphire X1600Pro and I do notice that flickering you mentioned. Yours seem to run cooler than his though. Other than that it seems like a good card. I don't plan to upgrade my CPU and motherboard till the new CPUs and OS are relea...

Sapphire X1600PRO AGP
Hi, I'll soon be upgrading my ancient video card that only supports analog to something that can use DVI. My motherboard doesn't support PCI-E, so I'm limited to AGP 8X. Yeah, I'm way outdated. I don't see many reviews of the Sapphire X1600PRO AGP. Anyone out there using this card? - Does it run hot...

I'm now running 2 Seagates: 40Gb PATA ST340014A with firmware 8.01, Made in Singapore - Only slight whine for a couple seconds during initial spin up. After that, it's dead silent. 160Gb SATA ST3160827AS with firmware 3.42, Made in Singapore - Totally quiet. They are both about 1.5yrs old. I don't r...

Wow! I love what you did with those panels! Having some clear acrylic behind it would definitely quieten it down. I too have a CoolerMaster case and I found that the side panel vibrated less after I added a window with thick 0.5mm acrylic. I do have some blackish foam pads stuck behind the panels to...

Scythe Ninja in Narrow Cases
Hi, In a discussion in another thread , it became obvious that there's a concern for those considering installing the Scythe Ninja in a narrow case. If you have a case that's 200mm or narrower, there's the off chance that you wouldn't be able to close your side panel. It's made worse when the case c...

I've been doing a LOT of research on the Ninja to fit it in my 190mm wide case. You'll need to find out how high the motherboard sits above the case floor. It might be able to fit if there's more than 150mm clearance from the cpu to the top panel. This might be of interest to you. Check out this thr...

Hey thanks for taking the trouble to fit the fans. You've been a great help! You're right about the difference in the chassis. The ATCS models have removable mobo trays which sit about 18mm from the right side panel. I've tested the allowance by placing a 120mm fan sitting right on the ram. I am abl...

I tried to measure the distance from the top of the memory sticks to the side panel. It looks really tight. The 120mm fan will either just clear the panel by 1-2mm or be too tall by 1-2mm. I can't say for sure since I haven't bought the Ninja to test fit in. I guess those with cooler CPUs could get ...

Weldingheart, I see that you are running the Ninja passive. Did you try mounting the fan on the right side? I'm considering getting a Ninja to use in an old Coolermaster 210B case (also 196mm width).
