It will definately be OK for now, at least with DX9 games. You will be approach its limits with demanding DX10 games that will push the 8800GTX to a full 185W of power consumption. You could upgrade to a Corsair 520HX (40A 12V rail = 40 x 12 = 480W)or Seasonic M12-500 (36A 12V rail = 36 x 12 = 432W)...

Metrosexuals are a different ball game... they are those guys who really preen themselves, air kiss everyone at parties and often behave in an a manner with makes it hard to discern their sexual orientation. They exist in most social classes, most commonly in the upwardly mobile middle. If you take ...

I wonder how fat they were? Food additives, pesticides and plastics are supposed to mimic estrogen in the body too. I remember reading an article that blamed these for a 50% drop in sperm count since the 1960's. Prepubescent girls who have enough estrogens circulating through their systems will go t...

You might have problems with your TrueBlue powering an 8800GTX. Although its on paper specs suggest it will cope (28A +12V rail) its an old design, created for older systems that drew most of their power on the 5V and 3.3V rails. It might not like the huge +12V power draw an 8800GTX creates. I had a...

I'm not an expert, but all the cases / acoustic sound dampening solutions I have seen either: 1) Disperse sound but preventing direct reflections. Like those textured surfaces used in recording studios. 2) Use a combination of hard and soft materials. I am guessing the hard stuff is more difficult f...

If anything, I think people underestimate system power use and wattage requirements. I recommend that with your system you use a 2000KW PSU. http://www.bowerspower.com/pdfs/XS2000U.PDF You will have more than enough power, even after 5 years. I would watch it carefully though. Jaganath is likely to ...

As cool as possible. 48C is too hot for a HDD. It will have a shorter operating life than a HDD at 35C. I had HDD's working at 50C ish and thought what the hell, its within spec and just ignored the issue, until 2 failed within 9 months. I got an extra fan and they have been running at 33C ish witho...

I hope your monitor is a 30inch 2560x1600 monstrocity or you spend all your time on a 1600 x 1200 + monitor outdoors in Oblivion, otherwise 2 x 8800GTX in Sli is a waste of money. You will get playable FPS with one 8800GTX. I bet Anandtech's figures didn't stress the system with DX10 benchmarks / ga...

I actually have 2 drives... One is a 15K SCSI. The cabling is also pretty much the same as before. I think the main culprit is the x1900xt. It is definately the warmest thing in the case. You can feel heat radiating from it, and the PCB is always hot to the touch. For the moment I have just taken of...

Upgrade my Antec Sonata case to a P150 or P180?
I recently upgraded my Antec Sonata cased system with an Ati X1900XT modded with an Artic Cooling Accelero X2 (previously a nVidia FX1400 which is a 6800 equivalent card) and an AMD X2 4600+ with a Zalman 9500 cooler (previously a 90nm 3500+). Idle and light office work tempuratures have increased f...

Who owns AMD or INTEL stock?
I brought INTEL back in July 2006 when stocks were $18.00 because they were so damn cheap. I am thinking of holding them until the end of the year and seeing what the whole Vista, new C2D and other telecoms based plays bring to Intels fortunes. I am hoping they will get upto $26 per share. I don't t...

That PSU recommendation seems a bit iffy to me.
I would recommend a 1MW power supply. Click the below link and scroll to the bottom.

You might have to mod your case a bit.

@pyogenes: How come you own both AMD & INTEL stock? @thebuzzer: A X6800 will be a lot faster than a QX6700 for gaming, not to mention a lot more overclockable. There's nothing wrong with using firewire. It seems silly to suggest tossing those out for no good reason. I'd also use a tested, stable platform (XP) vs. Vista until at least the first service pack. Firewire is fine in itself, but is often implemented via a motherboards 32bit PCI bus. That means i...

Why are you are getting an AMD 4600+ based system when an Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 is similarly priced? The E6400 beats the 4600+ in almost every benchmark/application test and uses less power. http://tomshardware.co.uk/cpu/charts.html Why are you getting a "DX9" XFX GeForce 7950GT 512MB GDDR3 PCI Exp...
