SE, RE, or RE2 Western Digitals for RAID
Hi all, Has anyone run Western Digital SE drives in a RAID array? WD warns that the SE drives have a long error-recovery time, which may cause the RAID array to drop the drive, but has anyone actually had that happen? I am looking at purchasing a Asus M2N32 WS Pro board (6xSATA), and some 500/750/1T...

This might help. When I installed a P5N, with Ninja rev. B, into a Sonata I case.

couldn't you grab the board on a pci connector, or on the heatsink itself ( or both) . I know that they aren't made for it, but I know for sure that the pci connectors are very solid. And holding the mobo on the heatsink + pci connector is maybe better then just dropping the entire thing and hoping...

The motherboard died 8h after I made that post. To be fair, I think it might have been down to either shorting or blind luck. I got home after a night out partying and booted the machine fine, I woke up the next morning and the machine booted after 3-4 attempts. I checked the BIOS version and...

Hi all, I posted a while back about a new system I was building. Well, the parts finally arrived after messing with different suppliers, and the system is built. I thought I would post my experiences here. Spec has changed from the above post, so to recap: Antec Sonata I + Acoustipack Foam - Scythe ...

Upgrade time... (system advice)
Hi all, Time to upgrade my main PC, especially after my wife decided to go and purchase a new C2D Laptop *shakes fist* Anyway, spec below and a little reasoning afterwards. I am not after something 0db, just something quieter than my current setup. This stuff is already on order, so really looking f...

Just as a epilogue really... System arrived, put it all into the case and hooked up the drives. Booted first time. Moreover it went straight into Windows XP on existing install without the BSOD trauma I've had when replacing existing motherboards. Windows complained about new devices and after about...

Thanks for replies, in the end I did see the Brisbane cores released in early Dec '06, so you are probably right. For reference the system I am replacing, before it blew up, it was quite a nice file server: Antec 3800 (400W SmartPower) - 2x Antec 120mm Tri-Cool fans (rear, front) AMD Sempron 2600+ A...

ASUS M2V-TVM + 65W 3800+ X2
Hi all, Did anyone have to update the BIOS of their M2V-TVM, in order to accommodate the "Energy Efficient" Athlon 64 x2s? I am thinking of purchasing one, but without a second AM2 Athlon 64, I am a bit buggered if I need to update the BIOS. The ASUS site is a bit vague, saying it has supported from...

I guess some other important thing to consider is how well it passively cools. I remember seeing a Ninja in a P180 case with the rear and top fans providing more than enough passive airflow to cool the CPU, in fact just a single rear-mounted fan in many cases seemed to be enough to enable passive co...

Nexus fans I saw on KustomPCs (first UK site I could find that stocked them) are £17 each, plus another £30 for a Nexus fan based HSF, plus £40 for a Seasonic 430W PSU; so easily £100 in total. I'll try ATITool, I had it installed last night as the cube nicely heats the card, and I noticed the f...

Sonata basic mods
First time poster, long time listener! Hello! I have a Sonata case, with the Acoustipack foam added (ANTEC holes blocked), and the rear stock 120mm fan plugged through the Antec PSU's Fan Only molex. I used to run an Athlon 3200+ (skt A Asaka Cooler), with a passively cooled 9200 fairly quietly and ...
