No it's not the plus model. I've googled for differences between the plus and normal version. Both says above %80 efficiency and 21dba minimum noise. edit2: I've just done a fan swap to the psu. The new fan is connected to the motherboard and controlled via speedfan. Without the fan noise, the st50...

According to the Second Law of Thermodynamics, the maximum efficiency for a heat engine such as this one is (1-Tc/Th) where Th and Tc are the hot and cold Temps in Kelvins. Thus, sandwiching a Carnot Engine (nothing has better efficiency than a Carnot Engine) between a 100W CPU at 75°C and a Ninja...

Maybe it's like the Silverstone FN91 (I think that's it) which uses 80mm mounting, but a 92mm fan. in which case, it would be a 120 or so mm frame, mounting a 150 fan. Call me a cynic, but I can think of an easier answer than any of these. They're lying. Just like the 250mm fans that're 220mm, I th...

Well, I for one am not convinced its been axed.

Three words: Nuclear cooling tower.

The principles of these can be applied to help airflow in this manner. From memory, someone on procooling or OCAU did a fair bit of work on this, though from either an evoporative or water cooling perspective instead.

Hi there...back from vacation... I don't use swap over the network. I'm not sure if that's even possible. My workstations have either 256megs or 512megs of RAM...they have no swap at all. I don't do anything particularly file access intensive on the diskless workstations--I use the file server itse...

I suggest you take programming off the list of lightweight tasks, if you don't believe me, try running Websphere Integration Developer. I don't know that particular development environment, but there are enough development environments that don't have a bloated IDE over a bloated framework. Because...

About 65 nm, I'm note sure that we will see it used for low end dual core first. T64 and FX CPU's will get it first, where AMD can't keep up with Intel and the need is much bigger. My guess is that we have to wait at least 9 months for regular X2's. Don’t AMD traditionally release a new and small...

The only reason I'd love to keep a DDC is for the space savings and the looks of a possible alphacool clear cover. I strongly recommend the acrylic cover. I in fact thought you already had it, otherwise I had suggested it.. It's almost as mandatory as DC power if you want to run DDC quietly. Yea I'...

Disk performance will be really bad without gigabit ethernet, though. Well, that depends on your definition of really bad. I don't think anybody is going to do this for a gaming machine or hoping to win any benchmarks. On the other hand, for an average computer used for surfing, mailing and serious...

Alphacool HDD VibeFixer to suspend the pump elastically in a drive bay... Marci - as in Thermochill marci? I didn't realise you were a SPCRer. Anyway, I've got a DDC on the way, the 18v version. The silencing plan is tygon tubing (softer & less vibration transmission) and enclosing it in foam, in a...

Its not easy, but it can (and has) been done. When I get home from work, I'll try to remember to take some pics.

If you want real quiet from it, a fan mod HAS to be done, IMO. Remember though, you'll lose even more expansion slots, so make sure can afford to.

You can get rid of your Maxtor's noisy seeks by setting AAM to quiet (I love my three Diamondmax 10s). If I had a 7900GT, I would replace the stock heatsink with a Zalman VF900CU *AND* fan-mod it with a more efficient 25mm thick one. I find the stock fan on it a little annoying at low-speed. I've d...

Seeing as the 7900GT takes about the same amount of power as a 6600GT, passive cooling is not unreasonable, at stock speeds especially. In reality, the core is probably cooler running than the 6600GT as the 256Mb of ram and 256bit memory controller must draw a fair bit more than the 128/128 mem setu...

It'll run fine on its own. Caveat emptor though, a quick read on procooling will turn up very mixed reports. These things have some serious possiblilities, especially if they just pass through the 12v line. Is there any reason that you can't use a relatively high 12v load on them (high-end graphics and CPU)? If its not a problem, I have some plans for one of these...

Have you tried reducing the pump speed yet? I'd be interested in seeing how much it affects noise and flow/performance. I'm considering a very similar thing.
