very nice.
you really improved on most of the weak points of the 300.

getting back
I finally bought the 5670. all in all I stretched my budget to the limit. I've been playing supreme commander (basic) at 1280x1024 with medium settings. it's running smooth. I ran the built in benchmark and played around till I got an average of over 50 FPS and raised the minimum to well over 20. si...

Lian Li Lancool PC-K58
I just bought one recently.
I love it.
I can say that it does seem that the HDD soft-mount is not perfect, but does make a big difference.
and you need to check the lengths of the power cables on your PSU, if your moving to a bottom mounted PSU for the first time! (ooops)

I got this the first week it came on the local market. wanted mid-low end gaming card, supporting the newest tech I could afford. one extra is better power efficiency -> cooler operation. this model came with an Arctic Cooling cooler. work great for me, and is inaudible. I've been playing Supreme Co...

Check startup voltage on the 120 mm fan, if it starts att 5V you can always connect it directly to a 5V PSU line. There is a thread on this forum on how to so just use the search function. could do that. I've played with the 5/7/12 wiring options before. tnks, I hadn't considered it. was thinking i...

fan control
using gigabyte's EasyTune and AMD-ATI catalyst I succeeded in tuning the front fan, the CPU fan and the GPU fan down to my liking. I didn't succeed to tune down the rear 120 fan with speed fan. either because I'm a noob (first time with speed fan), or because GB's mobo doesn't support speed control ...

the small Israeli market is to blame
the local market is small, and very budget oriented (usually). so you don't see many buyers spending extra cash on peripheral value like high end cases. on the other hand some stores do specialize in high end systems. I ended up buying a much cheaper Lian Li Lancool case. this case has many advantag...

cooler was broken
I went in to the shop, and they replaced the Freezer Xtreme. it was in fact defective.
so I'll get on to installing the OS's (XP+Ubunto) and I'll report back.

comment 1: would be nice to see how it actually performed on a card that was less hot. maybe a 5xxx card. maybe someone will have the time to run that... comment 2: mounting the fan to the out side would be pointless. what we need is to convince Scythe to come out with a revision 2 of this cooler, w...

Nice build with nice case. My impressions are that this line of cases are sturdy but can you confirm this? -- yes it's very sturdy. the side panels are exceptionally stiff, compared to any case I've handled in the past. Cables look a bit short so I guess you cable management is the best you can do ...

new light weight 5450/5670
any thoughts on these?
I was considering the Silent Sapphire 4670 over the 5750, for budget reasons.
now the 5450 comes in over 10$ cheaper, with a passive cooler, and limited power.
and the 5670 comes in 10$ more expensive, with an active cooler, and slightly better performance.
what say you?

It is hard to quieten a high power gaming rig. Don't spend any money yet. Have some fun tinkering. Try different combinations of fans and see what the temperatures look like. Fist try just using the just the 2 fans on the back. ... Maybe after finding a combination that works go to the next level a...

Did you try fitting the fan to the NT06 between the fins and the base? No, but this is not a viable option with most motherboards. The fan would ride too close to the surface to clear all components, particularly the NB heatsink. I was thinking the exact same thought as Monkeh16. maybe a thin and s...

what about PSU intake temps?
many SOLO owner out there - is the space between a high end CPU tower cooler and the PSU intake sufficient?
doesn't this cause the PSU to heat up and run the fan at higher = noisier speeds than is otherwise necessary?

Well, I disagree. Or at least, it depends. I think there is often a case to be argued that more than 1 fan is over-engineering, especially in these days of 12cm fans. To cause an argument let me describe my system. It is running 70W at the wall, lets assume the PSU is 70% efficient. That means 21W ...

can we make a list of cases with the PSU located at the bottom?
of course a review/opinion would be good.
I haven't got one.
but I can list a few to start:
Cooler master: 590/690/cosmos
aerocool: zerodegree
antec: p180/p182

The passively cooled 7600GT also did quite well inside the case, staying under 80°C during testing. Modern GPUs are known to operate nominally in excess of 100°C and nVidia's throttle point is a sizzling 115°C. Somewhat surprisingly, adding the 7600GT only increased CPU temperature by a marginal...

such as cooling ducts, custom sectioning of the case.

I saw in a report from Computex 2007, that someone had a sample of a 8600GTS with 256bit memory. anyone know anything? alternatively, is the 8800GTS quiet/cool enough? is it worth my while to look for a passive 8600GT/s or should I look for a 8800GTS with good quiet cooling? like a preinstalled Zalm...
