How are you going to connect your HDDs? I'd be concerned about performance of the RAID5 array in software. Also I see from your other thread that your RAID array will be made up of SATA drives. The CN10000EG only had 2 SATA ports and the ML6000E and SP8000EG don't have any IIRC. The newer SN10000EG ...

Koolpc,
Yes, I've swapped the fan in a Seasonic PSU. To get around the small 2-pin header problem I used MikeC's "Simple PSU Fan Swap Technique" - works like a treat, clean and simple!

As an alternative to the APC, I have a Liebert PowerSure Line Interactive 2 1000VA 2U UPS that's silent during normal operation. It does however produce a *lot* of fan noise whilst running on batteries (during brown-outs and total power loss) and whilst charging. It performs a battery test once a we...

The 8800 GTS will fit into a P150 without any modification to the case, it's only the GTX which won't fit, it's about 1cm too long. Below are some images of my P150 and 8800 GTX configuration. Most of the heat the 8800 produces is expelled through 4/5 slots in the plastic housing, causing case temps...

I have a Liebert PowerSure Line Interactive 2 1000VA 2U UPS unit, and although I can't really vouch for its effectiveness as a surge protector, I can confirm that it's silent during normal operation. It does however produce a *lot* of noise whilst running on batteries and during charging. I also pos...

I had a similar issue with my Slot-1 Celeron 300A (based on the Pentium 2), it was overclocked to 450Mhz and the 40mm fan developed a terrible vibration over time, so in the end I just removed the fan altogether and cleaned up the heatsink. The heatsink is now just luke-warm, despite being overclock...

I recommend that you avoid the slim 160Gb Seagate ST3160811AS, I purchased one about 3 weeks ago and was disapointed with its idle noise. The noise character is hard to describe but instead of the more usual broadband "shhhh", it produces a metalic whoosh sound. Normally if you tap the top of a hard...

I've no idea what the GPU is clocked at, but the memory is clocked at only 333Mhz so I would have thought power consumption would be kept to a minimum.

I can also confirm that you should be ok with a 430watt PSU. I have a similar setup with my fileserver: 8 x Seagate IDE 200GB running off of a 3ware controller RAID5 1 x Samsung IDE as the system drive 2600+ AMD Athlon running on a Gigabyte motherboard, unfortunately the motherboard overvolts the CP...
