Our apps don't touch the GPU at all and the mobo+cpu are pretty highend and recent so not really looking to change.
We're going with the Gigabyte Windforce 460 for now which is the cheapest available around here. Maybe thing will change after 1050 has more availability.
Thanks for your help!

Re: Silent 4K office (not gaming) card?
not good.
What if we accept quiet (not silent) cards and increase the budget, any recommendations?
An Asus STRIX is around $150 and silent in 2D mode (fan off). The chip is older though, 750Ti.
Other options? This is a weird situation, there must be a solution!
Thanks!

Silent 4K office (not gaming) card?
So we're moving to 4K monitors at the office and the old cards just aren't up to snuff. Turns out you need DisplayPort 1.2 to drive 4K@60Hz. While we had dual-link DVIs to drive 1440p displays. But I can't seem to find a video card with: - DisplayPort output - 4K max res - fanless (or very quiet fan...

Actually, I am starting to like the Fractal Design 1100 more and more. Good looks, classical layout and slim(er) profile. Opinions?

Compact mATX case recommendation?
I am looking for a Antec NSK 3480 replacement. I want the same or smaller size (so <25 liters) and same shape (so no ugly cubes).
If they still made it I would buy it. But they don't, so... what else is out there?
Thanks!

Re: Quiet&Compact Work/Play system
The gryphon is more expensive and hard to find around here. For 35€ I can get a passive Radeon with 1gb ram able to drive two >1080p monitors.

Re: Quiet&Compact Work/Play system
Well, the 3480 has the smallest volume from the table of recommended (micro)ATX towers (the form factor i prefer) on this site. Also, Antec is easily available around here.

Re: Quiet&Compact Work/Play system
Of course, I forgot about case fan(s). Definitely need changing, thanks for suggestions. Can add the inlets if temps are not OK, too... Europe indeed. The initial fanless GPU is for office-type work only. I will definitely swap it for a more powerful, actively cooled one, if and only if I will want ...

Quiet&Compact Work/Play system
Building myself a new PC. At first for working from home (programming, various experiments involving VMs and such), but leaving open the option to add a powerful GPU in the future if a game catches my fancy. Case: NSK-3480 Micro ATX - going for most compact here, I am tired of lugging 30-pound behem...

Darn, you're right: the fan's red wire was going into the source's yellow wire. So 12V. I changed to use the 5V splitter and now it's even quieter. AND it didn't go over 65 C after 1 hour of Prime95. Not bad! An interesting note, maybe it will help someone. Another source of noise was coming from th...

Drives suspended, fans placed, running Prime95 beautifully. One thing is not clear to me: the Nexus Real Silent 120mm fan comes with Molex plug. This plug does NOT use the yellow wire. It only sends a Red and a Black wire to the fan motor. It was my understanding that Red = 5V and Black is ground. S...

Looks like I spoke too soon. With memory at CL4 2.0V, Prime95 did eventually FAIL on the hottest core (I am not sure that is a coincidence). Changed it to CL5 1.8V and it's been running without errors for about 8 hours now and still going. Both with the PWM-controlled fan installed on the CPU. I thi...

I've been quite happy with this memory brand so far. I have them running on a lot of PCs in both 4GB and 8GB configs, both 1.8V CL5 and 2.0 CL4 and they were rock-solid (other than a few sticks found faulty on arrival). I got 80C in Prime95 only when fanless. With a fan I get up to about 50-56 which...

That was IT. Damn, I'm dumb. Prime95 ran OK until I got bored. No problems. Excellent. I removed the fan and all went well until the cores arrived around 80 C where I stopped it. I don't see any point in going further since I don't foresee many occasions where all 4 cores will run at 100% for over 1...

Thanks for all the advice. The memory: 2x A-DATA 4GB DDR2 800MHz CL4 Vitesta Extreme Dual Channel Kit. Not ECC. Ok, connecting the vf900 directly to the psu through a molex instead of the mobo header fixed its speed weirdess. Now cranking it up to full speed keeps the GPU under 90 no matter what I throw at it. It's noisy, but not noiser that the game sounds. I will add an intake 92mm Nexus in the front as soo...

Autoboy, I definitely like that idea, but I have two issues: 1. The connector for Zallman does not fit the fan header on the x1900xt. Any idea how to get/improv one? I could cut the connector off the stock cooler, but then I am out of luck if I need to mount that back for a warranty or some resale.....

I tried to increase the fan RPM and I had an unpleasant surprise: if I turn the knob clockwise , the RPM goes down, from 1400 in the counter-clockwise-most "silent" spot, to around 1000. This is exactly reversed to what the manual says is supposed to happen. Also I noticed that in the "silent"positi...

Which one, the VF900? I left the FanMate inside the case, ugly little bugger hidden away. I really don't like manual fan controls, much prefering automated ones or always on with enough power to cool anything. One less thing to worry about... Anyway, if I have to... any well-known hole in the Antec ...

Actually, the X1900XT already uses 2 expansion slot covers. The stock cooler uses it to exhaust air out of the case. I replaced the stock cooler with the VF900, but the slot is still used by a kind of grill. Here's a pic I found on Google Images: http://www.kingbo.com/Product_photo/sapphire/x1900xt....

VF900 can't cool the X1900XT in P150 - what are my options?
I have a X1900XT with a VF900 and it overheats during heavy long gameplaying. It goes over 95 Celsius and then artifacts and even crashes start to show up. The rest of my system: P150, Seasonic 430, GA-965P-DS3, E6600 w/ Ninja+, Xfi Music, 550 Theater Pro tvtuner. The CPU and PSU fans are auto-contr...

Quieting speakers and UPS
After building a nice and quiet system out of carefuly selected components (thanks SPCR!) I had a nasty surprise: two parts I bought without thinking they could make any unwanted noise, did. 1. UPS: APC Back-UPS CS 650 Emits a strong buzzing sound when turned on and powering the PC, even the A/C is ...

I have 2 questions too: a. On a X1900XT, does it run at fixed RPM or is its speed varied with the GPU load? b. How quiet is it? Compared to a HIS ICEQ3 or a stock X1950XTX. I am seriously thinking about a X1900XT 256Mb, that is where the best value for ATI seems to be right now. The only problem is ...
