I would say if you really are on a budget and things are tight then do not go the AMD or the post Intel 775 route. What if something breaks down? If you have another 775 system it's just a simple swap and not a giant panic. This is especially true for recovering a operating system. You can't just pu...

Where To Buy Single Platter WD5000AAKS (US)
I am looking to replace my WD GP drives with the faster Blue versions. I know that the WD5000AAKS drives with revision codes 00M9A0/00D2B0/00V1A0/65V0A0 all have a single 500GB platter, but am not sure where to get them. I was wondering if anyone has recently ordered one from Newegg, ZZF, or Mwave a...

The ATI 4770 showed us that the reviewers get reference cards which are component-wise a lot different from retail. In the case of the 4770, this was so glaringly obvious, but some reviewers just gloss over the fact. Some of the manufacturers also further this deception by hiding sub-standard compon...

I thought about getting the 4770 for my HTPC setup, but got a 4670 instead. It's just too up in the air what the real idle consumption is. It might be that it varies from card to card - unless it's a reference card. Maybe in the next PCB revision they will remove the auxiliary power connector or is ...

You should have no problem with cooling the card passively with an AC S1/S2. The 7600GT is one of the most balanced power-efficient cards NVIDIA has made since the Ti 4200 Series. I think it only takes up 40 watts. You have to be careful though if you own an ASUS or EVGA card as they have non-refere...

The majority of faulty hard drives are caused by poor packaging for shipment. Samsung (F1's) have been widely known to develop bad sectors in a year. Seagate has had firmware problems and a persistent anomaly of reporting read/seek errors. Hitachi's are still tainted by the Deathstar name and consis...

I have several GA-P35-DQ6 boards installed. I believe it is the same design, as the 965P boards, at least the same situation anyway with the heat-sink on the rear of the board. The push-pins work but the pressure is not even without a lot of fiddling and cut hands. What I eventually did was to purch...

Scythe Minebea NMB Silent IC Series
I recently purchased some NMB-MAT "Panaflo" FBA09A12L1BX 92" fans to set up a silent HTPC system. I discovered that these new Panaflos have an extremely annoying mechanical whine throughout its operational range. I am now interested in purchasing the Scythe Minebea NMB Silent IC Series 3610KL-04W-B1...

Just a side note...
The EVGA cooler that I removed was made of a molded plastic. No, it is not even metal. I am so glad it has been removed. No more ugly noise or plastic.

Success
Finally had the chance to mount a MASSCOOL VF1 Dual Heat Pipe VGA Cooler onto my EVGA 7600GS AGP. It works like a charm. I also mounted the provided fan bracket with a undervolted 5V silent 92" fan from an old Enermax Noisetaker PSU. The solution keeps my card running at idle 40 and under burn 55. T...
