I just installed this on a stock i5-3570k yesterday. Temps are pretty much the same as in the article and a huge improvement over the stock Intel heatsink. At full load, I'm seeing 60C core temps vs 80C on the intel heatsink, both at full 12V.HammerSandwich wrote: Has anyone other than mkk used this on Ivy Bridge?

Re: Intel DH77KC (ATX) power consumption
Very Interesting. Any comments about the difference in every day performance? I noticed slowdowns on the old machine when multi-tasking - watching netflix while browsing or having multiple browsers open at the same time. This is all gone with the new CPU/mobo. Everything opens up instantaneously an...

Intel DH77KC (ATX) power consumption
Looking to upgrade my AMD BE2350 based file/terminal server with something faster that will hopefully last for another 3-4 trouble free years. Current system idles at 29W and maxes out under 60W so looking to get at around or under 20W with an ivy bridge processor and a H77 chipset. Microcenter has ...

My P35-DS3R came with the F4 BIOS already on it, so I shouldnLt need to upgrade to the beta of the new BIOS, right? I will have to have another look at Speedfan and figure out what you're saying. Which 2 fan headers does the BIOS and Speedfan control? The two with 4-pin fan headers, I assume? What ...

Re: what 2nd hand ULV with USB2 T&L laptops are there?
IBM Thinkpad X31 fits the criteria (~$300-350 used). It has a standard Pentium M. If you want a LV Pentium M, look at Thinkpad X40 or X41, these are smaller, but a touch pricier (~$400 these days) and have a 1.8" hard drive - say goodbye to upgrading. I wanted to 2nd qviri's recommendation on the X...

Btw, The TF7050 system in my signature consumes 30W at idle. How is your PSU in comparison to the picoPSU, in terms of power efficiency ? No idea but it is more efficient than a Seasonic S12-380W power supply. If I recall correctly, power consumption went down ~10% when I switched over to the brick.

I admit that I haven't read thru and understood your entire thread but would like to offer some input on what I've seen while playing around with lowering idle power consumption. I still have the PSU so if SPCR wants to run some tests on this unit, I'd be...

I'd be curious to see the 2350 compared to the 2300 and to a Brisbane 3600 running at minimal volts. Another thing would be to find out what sort of range is possible with Crystal CPU ID, which if I understand it-can let you get the advantages of both Underclock/undervolt and overclock based on dem...

Re: BE-2350 Idle Temperature
With an ambient temp of 26C, mine is currently idling at 35C. Cooling is handled by a Ninja in a P180B with 2 Scythe S-Flex fans controlled by a noisemagic controller. The fans spin at ~500rpms and ramp up to 750ish to keep max temps in the upper 40's. I am using stock AMD C&Q throttling as RMClock ...

Re: BE-2350, Merom, or Core 2 Duo in a home server?
If you do go for the BE2350 chip, I'd recommend a different/newer chipset such as the AMD690 or Nvidia 7050. The M2NPV-VM chipset is a bit more power hungry than the newer ones. I believe reviews showed a 5 watt or so difference at idle.

1. Has anyone removed the chipset heat sinks and either replaced them, or just re-attached them with a fresh application of AS5? Is this a worthwhile project? An undervolted non overclocked Q6600 G0 stepping isn't too terribly hot. With a Thermalright Ultra120 extreme and Yate Loons running at ~700rpms, I'm idling (1.6ghz@1.05V) in the low 30's. At full load and Yate Loons running at 1000 rpms, the cores hit the mid 40's. They run much hotter overclocked,...

I hope someone can answer whether you can request the G0 stepping when you buy. I'm going to ask some retailers anyway but I am afraid that it's not the easiest thing to do (considering most people will want the G0). NCIX says that they won't guarantee what stepping you get, it's all luck at the mo...
