Well just an update.... I did some browsing around and as it turns out, a lot of people have experienced similar issues with the Asus P4PE board. It would seem that on quite a few boards the thermal sensor is calibrated wrong thus giving a wrong temperature reading. Well I for one can't live with th...

So depending on my luck I could get a stock heatsink + fan that works really well or I could end up with one that works like crap... basically?

Ow well, I never intended to keep the stock heatsink for good anyway

Hmmm so either I didn't mount the heatsink right, or the Asus PC probe is not getting a correct reading.

Anyway I'm getting the PAL heatsink today and the AS3 and a low noise fan is in the mail... sure hope that solves it.

I just checked the PAL installation instruction (some PDF file)! Looks like I'll have to remove the plasic thingamajig that the stock P4 HS mounts to in order to install the PAL.. is that a correct assumption?

Thanks..... I'm thinking of the PAL heatsink and a 26 db pabst fan which puts out 34 CFM. I take it that should be sufficient to keep the CPU cool!?

Thanks for the warning :) Well I already bought and installed the P4, with the thermal pad ofcourse. So guess if it sticks to the CPU from the heat I'll have a delicate job removing it again once I get the AS3!? Besides I'll be getting a new Heatsink (probably a PAL) once... next payday. So I'll get...

What CPU temps should I expect from a stock P4 HS?

Just got a P4 2.4 GHz yesterday. I installed it with the stock HS + Fan and the thermal pad it came with (i.e. no Arctic Silver or the like). Idle temps are around 47 degrees C, according to Asus PC Probe (P4PE mobo). Does this seem like what I should expect? or is it high even for the stock HS? And...

I have the same "dilemma"... so are you saying, run the P4 without the thermal pad, just bare heatsink, until I get around to buying some AS3?

Those SilenX almost sound too good to be true! Don't think they are available here in Denmark though :(

Anyone know if there is a retailer list somewhere?

Nexus is the quietest, but its expensive. I would get a seasonic from newegg.com and it comes stock very quiet. Not as quiet as a nexus but still really quiet and alot cheaper, and you can always change the fan out if you think its too loud. With the prices we have here I don't think I'd ever perfo...

Well there are a couple things I'd recommend: First of all you should use a hole saw for the job. Ask around and see if anybody has one in the right size (whatever size you want the hole) that you can borrow. Secondly, you should make the cut from the outside of the panel if you know what I mean!? D...

I'll be sure to check in to see the results :) Guess the bottom is basically the only place you can put a fan if you wanna mod the case. Any other place and you'd have to ruin the look of the case. Looking forward to seeing the result. By the way, how are those locking mechanisms, for the drives, ca...

Thanks for the input to all.... think I have something to work with now :) Let me just run this one by you guys just for the h*** of it..... What are the other components in your system, just to give me a basis of what you plan to do ect. Well I'm pretty much building a completely new system, and what I plan to get is: - P4 2.4 GHz (For starters I'll be running the stock HS+Fan) - MSI 845PE MAX2 or Asus P4PE motherboard (the Asus board ...

 looks like some people are running more hardware of a 300 Watt PSU than I will ever own... well that's at least good to know! Guess then my only concern is whether I will need to run a couple intake/exhaust fans. On the iStyle there is room for a 90mm exhaust fan in the back, but the intake ...

Would anybody here happen to have one of these with a Zalman heatpipe system attached? Any experience?

Nexus iStyle vs. Chieftec dragon... which is the better buy?

Well I'm putting together a new system and I'm torn between the Nexus iStyle case and the chieftec dragon Chieftec: - Somewhat good looking - Comes with a 340 W PSU - Fairly cheap - Room for 4 case fans (should I need it) iStyle: - Cost about 40$ more than the chieftec - Comes with a 300 W PSU - App...

Graphic card question (MSI Ti4200-TD8X)

Well I'm currently lookin to upgrading my system and the graphics card I'm considering is the MSI Ti4200-TD8X. BUT... from the pictures I've seen I'm not too sure about whether or not I'll be able to pull off the heatsink and replace it with the Zalman heatpipe system... I'm thinking the stock HS+Fa...
