Apparently it is fairly quiet, regardless of the fin spacing or the materials used. However, I'm interested in *actual* experiences of the denizens of SPCR - people who are likely to be better able to judge it's actual performance.

Titan Fenrir

Bit-tech (amongst many others) are endorsing the Titan Fenrir these days as the best all-round cooler. Affordable (£30), a good cooler, and supposedly very quiet. The price is easy to check, and I have every faith in Bit-techs judgement on cooling capability - however, being a site for enthusiasts ...

AFAIK.

I originally bought a vanilla P180B. When the door hinge bust, they sent me an SPCR one via RMA. It bust again, and then they sent me a vanilla one again.

I'm not sure why some are branded SPCR and some aren't but they should be the same design.

One has SPCR on it and the other doesn't. Oh and one is gunmetal grey and the other is black.

That is it.

Mike, Thanks for your help, but I know how phpBB works. And no my email address is current, active and working. The email account is from my own domain - so there should be nothing between SPCR and my Inbox that might be filtering anything out. I've changed it to a yahoo account so see if that is an...

The only problem with that is that the rail will still vibrate some and in most cases the noise comes from the vibration between the rail and the rail slides (cage wall). This is the area that really needs to be dampened. Soft felt or foam will work well for this type of vibration. You are right th...

Don't all the new optical drives feature integrated speed controls? If they cut the speeds to, say, 5x for DVD, then there won't be vibrations of any kind. I've had my eye on this one: http://www.samsungoms-europe.com/samsung.php?section=product&id=SH-S183&group=multi Even if there are reported tro...

Is it the weight of the tiles that help? What effect do they have? Do they reduce the vibration or do they alter it so that it is less noticeable? I've got some adhesive felt for insulating cases. It's quite thick; might be able to squeeze some between the two drives to 'join' them together such tha...

DVDs in a P180B

I've a P180B case with 2 x DVD drives installed. Unlike the HDDs, the DVDs are mounted on rails rather than using silicon grommets. And given that there don't seem to be any particularly quite DVD drives available, i was wondering what I could do to dampen the sound that these drives make. AFAIK, th...

The P182 has a better laminated door construction IIRC which may reduce noise cf P180. AFAIK, the P182 doors are the same as the P180B (which is the second revision P180)... In any case, the problems with the earlier version weren't to do with the acoustic properties - it was because the earlier do...

The heatpipe/heatsink arrangement certainly doesn't feel hot to the touch or anywhere near it. The more I'm reading, the less I trust the MB Temp value; it seems it has merit as an indicator of temp change, but the actual temp is no the issue. Still, for the good of the mobo, I'm going to experiment...

Cooling advice: O/C C2D in a P180

I've got an E6600 with 4 x 1GB RAM on a P5B Deluxe in a P180. I have replaced the lower and rear Antec TriCools with Nexus fans. The top fan is currently switched off. The CPU is cooled by an Freezer Pro 7. All fans are plugged into the mobo and QFan is enabled to control cooling. Running overclocke...

If you are overclocking, DDR800 gives you a bit extra headroom, but if you are not, there is a tiny difference in performance between DD533/667/800 running alongside a C2D - maybe a percent or two difference. This has been well documented so you should be able to google for verification. Apparently ...

I'm afraid my experience of Antec is rather limited. My P180 is the first Antec product I've ever owned. I was pleased with it when I got it, but after a couple of months, the door broke - one of the small pins on the 'hinge' component broke of under very little strain. I spoke to the reseller (who ...

Avoid this Samsung drive . Loud! I'm just happy i rarely have to use it. I *think* I have the same unit. And it's awful. When a disk is in and is being used, it makes more noise than all the other components together by an order of magnitude. I bought it because of Samsung's reputation for quiet HD...

I know about Nexus - -plenty of people recommend them and they are widely used in my circles. It's the other two I'm keen to know about... Unfortunately they are not covered in SPCR.

As for the P5B Deluxe - it has 5 or 6 Fan headers I think. More than I have fans at least!

Chassis Fan control on a P5b Deluxe

I've got a p5b deluxe in a P180b case, so I've got the standard 3 tri-cools running. The CPU is cooled by an Arctic Cooling Freezer Pro 7. The problems is the 3 tri-cools are fairly quiet, but not as quiet as I would like, and even when the PC is in sleep mode (in Vista) the 3 case fans a whizzing a...

Well, I have just built a new 'quiet' rig based on a P180b with a P5B Deluxe mobo... but not because of any prevalent consensus in these forums. However, it was what brought me to SPCR - I had set my heart on a P180 from the start, but I wanted to make sure I was making the right decisions, so I tra...
