Re: SFF quiet gaming rig in a Lian-Li PC-Q11 (m-itx)

One concern is the lack of airflow to the graphics card: http://hardforum.com//showpost.php?p=1036293570&postcount=149 The pic also shows the proximity of the intake fan to the cpu cooler. That's gotta benefit cooling the MB and CPU - just wondering if it would be enough to be able to run passively....

SFF quiet gaming rig in a Lian-Li PC-Q11 (m-itx)

I'm wondering if it would be possible to improve upon the relative performance (compute/graphics power & noise levels) of the SPCR SFF Gaming rig (http://www.silentpcreview.com/Silent_Gaming_System_Build_Guide) in a different case - specifically the m-itx Lian-Li PC-Q11 (http://www.lian-li.com/v2/en...

Re: Can't find a reference ATI 6850 - do they exist[?]

Thanks for the reply. Reading my original post, I can see now how poorly written it was. Specifically what I'm looking for is the reference card with the blower that exhausts all/most hot air out the back of the case (similiar to the one SPCR reviewed http://www.silentpcreview.com/Asus_AH6850_Direct...

Can't find a reference ATI 6850 - do they exist[?]

After a bit of research, I think the reference ATI/AMD 6850 is the card I want to put in a developing build in a mITX Lian Li PC-Q11. That case is very small and graphics cards are limited to 240mm. Additionally, I'm going to need that card to exhaust as much hot out the back of the case as I can do...

I'll have to look into the cpu heatsink again. I was under the impression that the Megahalems was the top of the heap when it came to fanless. Don't say solid build yet! It's too early - must reduce size, increase power, reduce noise!!! :D Also, if you are intending on going fanless on the heatsink,...

Proposed new SPCR rig for my everyday machine - how'd I do?

My last SPCR build is 3 years old (EOL) and time to replace - WOOHOO. I've done a bunch of homework, and read the updates since last I was here (oh, about 3 years ago :D ), and the below is the summary of my new build proposal. This is my everyday home machine and I'd like it to be compact, quiet, v...

Agree with the "avoid Plextor" comments. I had a Plextor 708a in my last build and loved it. I just built a new vista/c2d machine and purchased the Plextor 800. Night and day difference. I knew as soon as I hit the open button that the reviews I had been reading were true. The 708a opening was butte...

Heat energy - got it (and I retract my overly-sarcastic previous reply).

I can't believe you're arguing against the concept that heat rises. Heated air rises because the excited molecules expand, taking up more space than cooler air, thus making them less dense. The effects of gravity differ due to density and the result is that the heated, less dense air "rises".

Are 2 fans enough? Case+CPU for Solo/8800 build?

I'm putting together my newest PC - I call it the SPCR Special. You could probably guess the components: Solo, E6600, P5B Deluxe, Ninja B, 8800GTS, WD 500AAKS. I want to mildly overclock the 6600 (to 3.0) and the 8800 (mainly just for the fun of doing it, not for the performance upgrade). Cruising t...

Thanks for the heads-up. I'll look around for some other reviews on that Samsung. GaryJ I don't have advice on the video card, but I wanted to tell you that I have both the WD 2500KS and the new Samsung 321KJ and the Samsung is much quieter with a less obtrusive noise character. It could be that I g...

My 1st Quiet/Overclockable Build (C2D) - Thoughts?

Great site - I've been reading it for a month now. Very happy I found it as I want to reduce the noise generated by my home PC (nothing like an office with hard wood floors). A few facts: 1) This build will be my first attempt at overclocking. I'm not going to be super-aggressive, I just want to do ...
