Re: Advice Updating Older Silent PC
Well thanks everyone for the advice. After some research I really agree. The 5750 is still the king of low power video, and I'm not sure I would notice just a CPU bump. So I'm going to wait another 3-6 months and see what's on the horizon. I figure that if I was building from scratch today though, I...

Advice Updating Older Silent PC
Hey everyone, For the last 2 years I have been extremely happy with my completely fanless, passively cooled, silent gaming PC build. It's been on every day all day and I've never had any problems. I consider it one of my greatest victories! But now it's starting to show it's age especially while gam...

I used a 2x molex => 6 pin adapter. I'm not using the 2 molex for anything anyway. I'm already about at the limit for power, if I had a more power-friendly video card I would consider oc the processor. As is, I don't want to use any more power. Also I am running fanless on the processor which is not...

Right now I have a 150 watt Pico and a 150 watt (12v / 12.5a) brick. The brick gets pretty hot. Kill-a-watt ranges from 60 watts idle to 110 watts gaming and 145 watts in Furmark. What components do you have connected (MB, RAM, HDD, CPU, VGA)? I'm considering getting a pico 150. Gigabyte MA790XTA-U...

Re: How Do DC Bricks Work
How hot should the brick get? I can put my hand on it, but just barely. Its like a cup of coffee that almost too hot to hold onto.

As far as I remember, the first fanless Powercolor 5750 that came out, used a lot more power than the reference 5750's. Does anyone know for a fact, that their Go Green edition uses as little power as the reference, or even less? If so, I'll purchase it right away. I couldn't find this in stores, I...

Gpu Temp On/Off Fan?
It is possible to have a case fan that comes on when my GPU temp hits a certain temperature but goes (completely) off when it goes below it? I'd want to set the temp myself. Any ideas?

Hi! Thanks for the help you guys. I decided I will keep the Pico PSU then and try running it for a while, if something melts I guess I will just upgrade then. It seems safe so far. I will run some more 3D tests tonight. I don't really game on the machine ever, I was just using that as a stress test....

How Do DC Bricks Work
This is kind of an aside, but how do AC/DC power bricks work with DC/DC power supplies. Right now I have a 150 watt Pico and a 150 watt (12v / 12.5a) brick. The brick gets pretty hot. Kill-a-watt ranges from 60 watts idle to 110 watts gaming and 145 watts in Furmark. Even though the Pico is 150w wou...

Results are in: http://www.silentpcreview.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=57219 BUT The nice people who sold me my Pico PSU have offered to let me exchange it for an M4 which I will use with my Dell DA-2 I just got today. However, the Pico does seem to work and the Killawatt says < 150 watts. Should I bo...

Okay, I ran FURMARK on Windows 7 for 600 seconds everything maxed including the xtreme burning setting. For the first 400 seconds the Kill-a-watt said 142w the whole time. After that it slowly climbed up to 149w The gpu temperature hit 90C at the peak but it was level. Is a problem? Seems very hot! ...

That seems like a lot more power considering you're driving a hard drive and a higher wattage processor! I'm going to try the kill-a-watt tomorrow and will report back.

I see what you're saying. But what if it will only be 25w and I can undervolt or underclock the hardware to free up 10w more. Then its 135w under max load, and idles well under that. Would that be so bad? I don't think I want to deal with the heat of a bigger power supply, cooling it will be too lou...

I'm really surprised that given the availability of the DA-2 nobody has an out of the box solution? I'm hoping to give that a try with the M4-ATX since everyone seems to have problems with the PW-200 power supplies after I test out the Pico a bit more. I'm thinking maybe with underclocking/undervolt...

I borrowed a Kill-a-watt and will try to measure at the plug. Also I ordered a DA-2 brick on Ebay. If the 150w isn't enough, does anyone know if I would have success mating the DA-2 to the M4 power supply from short-circuit and mini-box? I have read that the PW-200's don't work but the M4 seems to b...

I don't understand why I need a 400 watt power supply for a 45 watt processor and max 80 watt video card? It would be helpful to have some of these questions answered so I know the "why" of things. Its the 12V / 12.5A brick that many places sell with the 150w Pico. I figure 80w for the video card, 45 for the processor, that leaves 25w for everything else under max load. Pico PSU Connectors
Hey Everyone, I'm trying to use a Pico PSU with a new mainboard and video card. The mainboard needs an 8 pin 12v connector and the video card needs a 6 pin power connector. Neither are available by the Pico! What has everyone else done in this situation? I'm not much for cutting and splicing wires. ...
