You must get a 780G or 8200 matx board since you want a AMD 45W cpu. Well, these boards certainly carry a 4pin/8pin +12V plug with itself. Out of curiosity, I wonder what board has no CPU +12V plug nowadays? Never mind, acoustic differed far greatly in terms of individual's preference. turns out th...

You don't need 20 to 24pin adapter, but you need CPU +12V 4pin adapter to boot your mainboard. Btw, get a feature rich board which could undervolt cpu from bios. Though off topic, I think Onkyo SE-90/200 has cleaner, better digital output quality than Creative counterpart. i am thinking of switchin...

picoPSU - 20-pin vs 24-pin
hi all, planning to build a "computer transport" - streams music from a NAS, then outputs to a DAC through a pci sound card. trying to avoid moving parts so I'll be using the picoPSU. other components: cpu - intel e2180 with xigmatec 1283 on passive ram - corsair 3gb board - matx, either the gigabyt...

Why not use a mini-ITX board? Something like a Via C3 or C7 board is oodles for playing audio, or you could even try the cool new Intel D945GCLF Atom motherboard. Naf-all power consumption, so no heat generated. Then for power, you could use a PicoPSU, or the little Sparkle Power SPI220LE. It'd all...

780g + am2 = pretty low heat. You can next-to-definitely run that system with the PSU and another fan by the cpu and have no fan-speed-ramping issues. Going fanless usually means going scythe ninja, but a 1283 with a slow fan wouldn't really add to the case vibration, so you could do that too... or...

Case choices for CAS (computer-as-source)
I am building a computer transport (think computer -> DAC -> amplifier), and I would really like some input from you guys as to what case I should choose =) this is just me thinking aloud - 1. would like to use as few fans as possible, to cut the vibration down to a minimum 2. i plan to use the cpu ...

CPU Overheating - solutions?
Update: Problem solved - it turns out that my exhaust fan fried at some point in time, and so it hasn't been running...which contributed to the ridiculous high temps.

this is the setup I have - since the 8800gts/gtx is kind of long, it more or less separates your upper chamber into two. the upper half is taken care of since both the CPU and the exhaust fan are located near the top. i have a nexus 120mm for exhaust and an Antec TriCool on medium with a SI-128 (scy...

so it turns out that my coil whine came back after leaving the computer off for one night - so much for increased vCore, lol. and yes, it does whine slightly when it's off. but in my case it amplifies when i turn on the computer. i'm going to add another drive to it and see if it persists. or i migh...

honestly, the root of the problem lies in that there was never any sort of structure to begin with - they weren't very big on IT, didn't have anyone that know anything, and didn't consider structure to be important. so what they ended up with is basically a very large "home" network with people shar...

File Server(s) for Work
I work for a small trading company in Hong Kong. The IT setup here is pretty catastrophic - just computers hooked up to a router/gateway box. So what people do is they simply enable file sharing in windows xp and pass around files that way. With 17 computers (and possibly more), this is becoming a n...

i love the corsair 520w - it's really quiet when the load is high. i tried running it with just one sata hdd and one sata optical, and got really loud clicking noises from the PSU. but then i tested it with my current system (see Home system in sig), and i can't even hear the fan. i am having the sa...

Extra HSF Mounts?
Say you buy a Scythe Ninja, or a Thermalright SI-128 to cool your rig. It comes with all kinds of mounts - 775, 478, K8, AM2, you name it. You apply the AS5, mount the HSF, and live happily thereafter. What do you do with the other mounts? Do you throw them away or do you keep them in case you decid...

i would change the PSU, as people are still reporting compatibility issues with the NeoHe PSU. See this thread . The problem is mainly with Asus boards, but I would avoid the NeoHe just to be safe.
