Sorry, my mistakes. Will update when drive is properly in place. I think my old case might be adding to the noise problems I am having. Also got the drive to boot.
So far agree with other comments about seek being like percolating coffee, is quite noisy. I haven't tried AAM as yet.

First off, I can hear them seek when I run the HDTune read test but they don't cause the case to hum like the blacks do or make weird seeking noises like my old F3's. They are pretty quiet. Note : I have multiple Samsung, WD Green and WD Black drives. Thanks Flanno, I have 2 WD 1TB greens and a WD ...

Any news on the new Samsungs RAID compatibility? Have read the WD greens have problems and though I think unrelated the Sammies have the same new 4k sector size but still keen to know if the new ones are fine for RAID like the previous models? Also is there any reports of humming (my thread - http:/...

Re: Samsung F3 1TB whine?
I recently bought a Samsung F3 1 TB drive - HD103SJ - and when installed and intermittently it gets this whining sound. A faint but audible and continuous cycling hum/whine that goes for about 1.5 seconds with a brief pause. Mmmm Mmmm Mmmm Mmmm. I just got a 1TB F3 and have exactly the same problem...

Western Digital 1TB SATA3 64M (WD1002FAEX)
Hi guys, Any reviews experience with this drive? I had a whiny Samsung F3 and the WD1001FALS replacement I ordered I have just been told (after waiting a week) is never going to be in stock because it has been replaced by this drive. However I have read a few people sayings its loud, and also people...

Yeah I think some soft rubber grommets inbetween the drive and case might make a difference, I think having metal on metal combined with this all WD drives might be a problem. But even when sitting on the foam outside the case it was making an audible whine. Yeah I am too a bit surprised more people...

Interesting reply I got in another forum.. "I warned people about this problem with the Samsungs many many times before, in previous posts about hard drives. It is a common problem, but many people don't post about it because many people aren't anal about noise (I'm on the other hand very particular...

Latest update isolated the drive from the case sitting on foam and noise is there.. clearly when the drive powers down to sleep there is silence. Also discovered when moving the drive towards the case and the sata cable touched the case it would rattle slightly to the vibration. Then found touching ...

I've had the case for about 10 years and all brands and different sizes of drives over the years and only this one and one of the old 160g made this noise? Well Samsung drives have vibrated more than other brands in my experience. But that is the only negative thing I have to say about them really....

Have you ruled out vibrations that gets amplified by the case? I've had the case for about 10 years and all brands and different sizes of drives over the years and only this one and one of the old 160g made this noise? And the noise is identical. Also it is a very good case with removal HDD cages t...

Hmm, I don't know, to me they look noisy. 70mm 1500rpm fan and a custom PSU? Also, all the ventilation holes makes me doubt the accuracy of their nice airflow pictures. But what do I know? Yeah thats exactly what I thought too, but the newegg reviews says its quiet?? :shrugs: I was looking at the C...

Perhaps a good old XP-120 if it fits, and if you can still find it. Nice one, plenty of those here in Australia too :) Wondering if that crossbar might get in the way and trying to figure out where the 2x3.5" drives go. Looks like one on the linker bar and maybe the other under the 5", I hope that ...

Very nice cases. Looking at these for my 780G/4850e combo as an alternative to the NSK2480B which is too wide and deep for my needs, and really like the hidden flush optical drive on the C36 something that the Antec sorely lacks. In a perfect world I would prefer the ports to be nicely hidden behind...

Hi, Thanks for the great site but I have been swearing at the screen for the last 5 minutes trying to find where my watched topics are? I got a bonus I was unaware of Neverwinter Nights 2 which I was stoked about until I read it is a turd of a game lol. I don't think it's that bad of a game, and 82% on metacritics and gamerankings is pretty decent, if you like that kind of game :) I am a D&Der from way back so I might give it a loo...

Yeah there is a huge difference in performance :) I was originally looking at the 8600gt aswell but to play any of the newer games (UT3, Bioshock) at my native res of 1680x1050 is impossible with that card. Plus the 3850 has HD decoding (Dedicated unified video decoder (UVD) for H.264/AVC and VC-1 v...

I sent them another email asking if they could please be more precise with the measurement because I need to know exactly and they replied it was about 4cm from the golden part of the PCI which is still not what I need to know. Bad News for me. :( Question to Sapphire Tech: "Please can you tell me the height of the Heatpipe cooler on the HD3850 passive version. Just to add to skj's post - I'm considering getting this Sapphire 3850 passive with a Gigabyte GA-X38-DS4 or GA-x38-DS5 motherboard. 3850 256m or 512m fanless?
I was all set to get a 3850 256m and have just read about the Sapphire Ultimate 3850 512M available here now in Australia for about an extra 50 bucks. It is going to eventually be in a HTPC so just a couple of things I would really appreciate any advice on please. I read a review here ( Sapphire’s...

Great for home theater too, my Visiontek card comes with a DVI to HDMI adaptor that also will send 5.1 audio through the HDMI, and the device is recognized in windows. So HD 3850 stock cooler is the most quietest active reference stock cooler I've heard. Does the brand of card make any difference or are they all that quiet? I was going to get a heatpipe 8600gt but if I can get this which most reviews say is the best bang for buck and is uber quiet I think I might...
