laptop cooler
I quieted my noisy Dell with a Zalman laptop cooler. It keeps the notebook cool enough so that the Dell fan never comes on at all. And the Zalman fan is a decent quiet one. At the low-rpm setting, it doesn't move a lot of air, but enough to keep some air moving thru the laptop. Most of the time I us...

Zalman really works well, and pretty quiet.
I have that Zalman cooler, and I like it. I have a Dell laptop that is too noisy. The Dell would warm up enough to cycle the fan on and off, even when idle. another Inspiron 6400
Dell Inspiron 6400 Core 2 Duo, T5600 (1.83 GHz) with ATI Mobility Radeon X1400. From Dell fan cuts on/off at 48/38, cycling even when idle. With FanGUI set for 55/47, still cycles, but less often. As an experiment, I tried to see where passive cooling would stabilize. When idle, and with notebook at...

I'm also very interested in whether this system can be made silent. I haven't purchased it yet, but it does seem like it has a lot of potential for a silent low-power 24/7 file server, and misc utility box. Surely some readers have worked on this box. Please give us some info! I would probably try a...
