Re: Which PicoPSU & brick for an i7 3770K
I ended up buying the 160W version with an 192W brick from www.goodthingsonline.eu (temporary they seem on holiday, it's a small shop). Not sure what to look for on the brick to see the efficiency. It does say "Efficiency Level V". The system is not finished yet, the mainboard had some issue and I h...

Re: Which PicoPSU & brick for an i7 3770K
OK, thank you, that makes it clear. Any recommendations of suitable good power bricks of 150W or even 200W? (If available in Europe, even better). ------------------------------------------ After posting I saw this one on ebay.de: PicoPSU 160XT + 192 W Adapter. Sounds like what I need, but I wonder ...

Re: Which PicoPSU & brick for an i7 3770K
One thing I'm not clear on: if I need, let's say, 150W, is it enough if the PicoPSU is above that (e.g. PicoPSU 150XT) and can I use a lower power brick (e.g. 100W), or does the power brick also need to be rated above the needed consumption? I think it's the second, but I'm puzzled about the PicoPSU...

Which PicoPSU & brick for an i7 3770K
Hello, I want to build an ITX system and I'm having a bit of trouble determining which PicoPSU and power brick would be suitable. The system will consist of: - CPU Core i7 3770K - (Probably) Big Shuriken 2 cooler + fan - Mainboard (model to be determined) - NO graphic card, only on-board graphics - ...

Re: Case advice for mITX system w/o PCIe card
Thank you for your comments. About the cases, I've seen both the BitFenix Lian and the Li PC-Q08 - and they're both a bit too large to my taste, I would like something even smaller (especially as height) than the Silvestone SG06. The SG06 looks like an OK compromise, though - as pointed in the SPCR ...

Case advice for mITX system w/o PCIe card
Hello, I'm planning to build a new system, currently reading up on today's hardware. At the moment I'm thinking: CPU Intel i7-3770K (though not fully convinced, not sure if the power justifies the price) MB Intel DH77DF SSD Samsung830 256GB (1x) RAM 16GB I'm thinking Big Shuriken 2 cooler, since I d...

About the Thinkpad quality, what kind of scared me was this: http://reviews.cnet.com/laptops/lenovo-thinkpad-t61/4852-3121_7-32442903.html?tag=srtrtng&ord=ratingValue+asc But I guess you are right, the quality of Thinkpads still seems to be quite decent. For some reason they seem harder to find in N...

Powerful but still quiet laptop
I am looking for advice for buying a laptop to replace my current Latitude D810 - which served me reasonable well, although lately is anything but quiet (the fans are getting old). I'm looking for: XP (no Vista, thanks), Core2 Duo 7500/7700, 15.4" screen hi-res (e.g. WSXGA+ 1680x1050), 7200rpm HDD. ...

Sorry for not checking back on the thread for so long. Some answers to the questions above and some follow-up. The HDD is a Seagate Barracuda ST3250824AS. I didn't open it to see about modding possibilities, I don't want to void the warranty and this is a temp solution anyway until I build a proper ...

I ended up buying the Athlon64 X2 version. It's not silent, but it is very quiet - at least in my opinion. The noisiest part is the hard drive, so I would not recommend it to someone with a lot of disk activity (fortunately, not my case :) I'm using it with CentOS Linux and it is nice to watch the f...

Is Acer Aspire L100 quiet?
Hello, I'm looking to buy a new computer and, as an alternative of building my own quiet PC, I was looking at some ready-built alternatives. One of the options is Acer Aspire L100 (Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core 3800+). Its small size is very practical, but I don't know about the noise level: http://www.bcc...
