Intel Response for temperature of E8400. The following is quoted from an article written by the author of CoreTemp, Arthur Liberman. 1. TCaseMax: This value stands for the maximum temperature at the dead-center at the top of the processor core or the IHS which will ensure 100% stability and safety....

It's not that simple. You are supposed to calibrate Real Temp... Well, for me, it is that simple. I don't care about actual core temperatures. My only concern is, do I have enough margin before the CPU is overheated. That information is given to me directly by the core sensors, whitout guessing, ca...

Core Temp gave me 10C over what Real Temp reports. That's because they are assuming and calculating with differnet values for Tj. Max, 105 respectively 95. I suppose only Intel knows the correct value :? But again, look at Distance to TJ Max. That value is reported by the sensors, no guessing invol...

I have read that 72.5C is the maximum temperature for E8400. Nah, CoreTemp seems to think 105C (Tj.Max) and RealTemp 95C (Distance to TJ Max + Core Temperature). Don't know what SpeedFan is calculating with, probably 100C. However, the really important values are those reported by the core sensors,...

Damn this temp sensor stuff is confusing. Why couldn't Intel have made this more simple? Intel has made it very simple, the core sensors report how much you have left to TJunctionMax (throttling point). Actually, that's the most important value and the only one you really have to know. It is all th...

Me too, have a Silverstone TJ08.
It's not a perfect case, but excellent airflow, rather roomy and can be made pretty silent.
I don't have to turn fans up while playing Crysis (8800GT).

I would never use a fan if a passive solution does the job just as well. Accelero flimsy? That's a new one for me. What's wrong with a fan if it keeps the GPU cool and can't be heard? The fins are only squeezed onto the heatpipes. Actually, the topmost one fell of and is now hold in place by the fan.

Perhaps, the last one is a bit 'more inaudible' Actually I can think of a few reasons to pick the Zalman...

The Antec Solo case systems (like pyro bas silent ) can offer the best balance of low, benign-quality noise and modest price. This assumes the built-in elastic cord suspension is used for the HDD mounting, the main case fan is changed for a quieter one, and the CPU heatsink/fan is also very quiet. ...

Seems to be a nice case. Almost identical layout, but for about a third of price, compared to my Silverstone TJ08. Perhaps, they use a combination of load and temperature to control the fan speed. Take a look at this review of Corsair 450VX at AnandTech. They are testing power supplies in in two different temperature environments, normal room temperature and up to 50°C. Look at the graph for fanspeed, up to 50%...

Do you know if this power supply increase fan speed with temp or load? I am quite sure most (perhaps all?) powersupplies regulates fan speed according to temperature. To do otherwise would be stupid, since the temp at a certain load very much depends on the environment the PSU is working in. Ambien...

As I said, more than enough. And as I said in my first post, quote: "always spinning on the lowest voltage from PSU fan control (3.8V)". Well, he lives in Norway, but how much power his system draws, is perhaps even more important to know. Personally, I can't accept noise from any PSU-fan spinning above ~900 rpm, so if max rpm is 2200 or 1200, is of minor interest. With power draw below 200W and air intake for the PSU a couple of deg...

I have a HX520, ADDA (whining from the very beginning) replaced with Noctua 1200 rpm. It's very quiet, always spinning on the lowest voltage from PSU fan control (3.8V). Of course, my system never uses more than 150-200W. I am sure that the S-Flex will work fine too, perhaps safer with 1600 rpm. How...

With a hot VGA-card it's also desirable to have some airflow in that area. You can make a simple duct to force fresh air down below the VGA-card. The upper side vent (ducted to a down blowing CPU fan) is in line with Intels recommendations for the old hot Pentiums. With two 120mm fans for exhaust an...

That one looks OK to me. You don't mention what you are planning to put in there, but whatever, I am sure you can build a cool and quiet computer in that case. Of course, you have to construct some suspension for the harddrive(s). That low side vent can be useful, for a hot VGA card. The upper side ...

From where does that case take air in? That narrow opening in the front and vents in the left side panel? I suppose there, at least, is an intake for the CPU fan. I think you need some airflow in the VGA department, especially if you choose a passive card. Is there a side vent, low enough, to let ai...

Is it really necessary to know the exact core temperatures?
I think the most important value is precisely that reported by the on core sensors, margin to TjMax (throttling point).
No guessing and no calculation required. Perhaps everybody should start using that value when comparing CPU temperatures?

I don't think that direction of the CPU fan matter much. You could try to improve airflow a bit further (without cutting) by removing a couple of PCI slots below the VGA card, but that will probably do more for the GPU than the CPU. The on core sensors reports the difference between actual temperatu...
