What is the reason that have made you choose not to use the mCubed mounting system for the CPU heatpipes? Judging from looks alone my guess is that you will get a better result cooling wise with two heatpipes mounted firmly in a block on the CPU rather than relying on the heat transfer from a single...

I have a horisontal TRUE and exhaust top of case. Mobo is "up-side down in my case - Lian li v1000 - though. So the hot GFX card (8800GTS with HR03) is in the top of the case. My TRUE is running passive and the idea is that the hot air goes up in the case and gets exhausted (through the side) at the...

Very interesting. I had discounted any none-mobile CPU boards because of the limited TPD the case is able to handle. But there are a few AM2 and even Socket A boards on the compatible list now that I look closer. The internet tells me that Sempron is 35W TPD. That should be fine. I probably should n...

Alright, thank you for your advice everyone. I will wait for the new boards to be released to avoid hazzle with BIOS updates and Vista instability. I will go with the HFX micro M2 for compatibility. Wonder what new chipset will be on a mITX retail board first. I will pick up a Mac mini if it drags o...

My experience with the Mac mini - only 2 samples - is that the fan gets noisier over time. Those where both older Mac minis though. I'll try and find a new Mac mini to listen to. I could get a lower grade USB TV tuner perhaps instead of the PCI option. It certainly would be the easiest way out. snor...

Thank you autoboy. The HFX cabinet is a heatsink case with heatpipes going from the CPU and onboard VGA to the case. It houses 2.5 drives that are incased in sound dampening boxes. So it should be as good as silent. This is the main reason I am would like to go with it if I can find a good mini ITX ...

miniITX HTPC
I want to build a HTPC using the HFX micro case . It will be used only to play music and video (files will be on my to-be-build file server) and connected to a Hi-Fi'ish amplifier for sound and a HD capable LCD TV. I will probably be running Windows Mediacenter on it but that is TBD. mCubed sells th...

I am considering the i965GMt-LA for a small HTPC as the specs look very promising IMO. (Also it is part of an HFX Micro bundle I am considering). Is the GPU noise a short low "whiny" noise that occurs when you scroll in windows etc? I think that is a fairly common issue. I have encountered it using ...

While it may take a little more effort an aluminium case can be made reasonably quiet. I have an aluminium case too (Lian Li V1000). I have put the Quiet Drives in the bottom of the case on top of each other. (with 8mm soft rubber feet between the enclosures and the lower enclosure and the case). Th...

I am very happy with the Scythe Silent Drive boxes. However, since the Solo have soft mounted HDs you might not need them if you go for a more quiet HD in the first place. Notice that while my HDs are the most noisy thing in my computer, I have a fairly quiet computer to begin with - 2 undervolted N...

1) Yes you can fit those parts into a Solo. A lot of people on these forums have simular builds. 2) A little harder to answer. You might want to consider replacing the Seagate drives with Samsung or WD. I have Seagate drives myself and they are the noisiest parts in my computer even though I have pu...

mcubed has a system of heatpipes that "connects" the CPU, NB or VGA to the case: http://www.mcubed-store.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=21_38_46 They also have 3 series of "heatsing cases" (easily found on same site). They are all HTCP cases though and still quite expensive sompared to so many other ca...

I doubt you will see any noticeable difference on temps using Scythe or Noctua P. They are both good and quite fans judging from own experience and reviews on this site. Push-pull on the heatsink is overkill. As for case fans, both the Noctua P and the Scythe should do fine. Since you plan for both ...

I have no experience with that particular drivebay but the fan and the fan mounting looks to be the same as on my Lian-Li V1000 case. The Lian-Li fans are not that quite. I put in a Noctua fan with a Zalman fan-mate for control. Also I soft mounted the fan into the rubber grommets for double vibrati...

Notice that the Scythe 800 rpm fan has relatively high starting voltage (8.9v). This makes the 1200 RPM version much more flexible as it can start at about 5v and thus at a lower speed. You get roughly a 400-1200 rpm starting range instead of 600-800 rpm. The relevans of this of depends on how you p...

Have you checked your voltages in BIOS? I managed to ruin my brand new ASUS P5N32-SLI MB while installing a TR 120 extreme. The symptom of the damage was all voltages was "out of wack" - 2.00 vcore, 10v on the 12v etc. I bought a new mobo, installed the TR 120 on that and everything was fine. (full ...
