To another NAS over the internet, of course!
(but seriously, you want off-site redundancy, local backups might as well be internal NAS runs or RAID - I have trust issues with USB drives)

Re: Windows 8: what do you think about it?

The shutdown behaviour is news to me. I don't like the idea my hardware doesn't shut down completely when I shut it down. I would DIY a killswitch if that was the case.

Here's something on the Start Menu: http://art.penny-arcade.com/photos/i-Rr ... x10000.jpg

Re: NoFan CR-95C Copper Fanless CPU Cooler

The notion that a single-machine household is the norm sounds a bit outdated to me, and the general population are anything but effective users when operating manually. The young adult homes I visit contain at least 2 PCs each, often more (1 desktop, several portables), multiple multimedia devices, ...

Re: NoFan CR-95C Copper Fanless CPU Cooler

All that's really needed is to place multimedia data on a separate server. Having data on a separate system is not ideal for many people and shifts the problems of heat, noise and energy consumption elsewhere. I don't like the idea of adding another system in just as a server at home, it's terrible...

Re: Gaming Build - Advice

The reason why a GPU has dual connectors is connector resistance, not wire resistance. The connector will overheat if too much current is flowing through it but the 16 or 18 gauge wire can handle a lot more so one modular PSU cable with two plugs on it should work fine. For the hard drive, if you d...

Re: Gaming Build - Advice

Congrats on a finished build! 8) Regarding the points made: The Macho is one of those huge tower coolers that can cool well with minimal forced airflow (meaning lower fan RPM and thus less noise). Option #2 was getting something like the True Spirit 120M that is compact and thus easier to install, b...

Re: Windows 8: what do you think about it?

That SkyDrive integration sounds really nasty. I don't like the service to begin with, and implementing it so deeply rooted and apparently "wide open" is just bad policy. MS needs another slap in the face it seems (the previous being the $700 million EU antitrust fine). It's good if there is an opti...

Grounding a socket is more than just swapping the receptacle: the ground wire needs to be routed from the service panel or a suitable junction box. Just wondering for my case, my house (really old) didnt have any 3rd connector, what i did was to my worker did was to burry a copper stick underground...

Re: Gaming Build - Advice

The whole point of a plug not fitting in a socket is usually because it would be a bad idea to connect the two. Surge protection circuits in general work by controlling the voltage they let through to the system to be protected and shunting the excess down a ground pin or wire to dissipate harmlessl...

Re: Gaming Build - Advice

Full ATX is fine, especially if you can get a deal. I just value the small mATX footprint highly, as the board inside is the same hardware (chips, channels, slots etc.), just in a more compact package. Mini-ITX is where the real compromises start. 256 GB SSD is excellent if you can afford it. Bigge...

You're never going to expand beyond what mATX can offer, it's pretty much a fact of life for anyone but the craziest triple-card SLI/CF setups, as even the midrange PRO supports dual-card SLI/CF. It would also have to be a pretty serious server for you to need more than 6 SATA connections (note the ...

Good to see review of this very interesting heatsink. Though what this review misses is comparison to NH-U12P. I have no special love for Noctua (defending a company is wasting one's breath), but the bashing is getting tiresome. The fan specs not matching has been discussed many times. Good to see another well-performing compact heatsink.

I wouldn't start separately rating the mounting, as it gets rated as part of the efficiency already (poor mounting, poor efficiency), but it is a critical aspect.
