According to that calculator, my system would draw 440W at full load. in reality if it breaks 150 it must be making coffee as well fyi, I have a 380W seasonic in the system... That is strange, how it can calculate such wrong numbers... What does it really calculate is the question :) Just make sure...

You don't think a 4870 can be powered by the neohe 550? (honest question). The Antec unit is of questionable quality and delivers poor amps, if you’re lucky, you end up with a decent unit. Hm.... Afaik, the NeoHE is manufactured by Seasonic, and with 504W (42A) on the 12V, I wouldn't say that's l...

When it comes to single or dual/multi rail, either would be just fine. Keep in mind that if you buy a PSU that's Seasonic made, it may be single rail, even though the label and specs say multiple, i.e they have no separate OCPs on 12V. This is evident in models such as for instance the Corsair HX an...

Re: Not recommended
I have a system from the same generation as you (Athlon XP) which I upgraded with the same PSU (VX450) you are considering to buy. I would NOT recommend buying this PSU. My +5 V line is only 4.62 V with the VX450 which is out of the +/- 5% which is tolerated in the specification. With my old PSU, a...

For an explanation of what you are experiencing, I suggest you look at http://techreport.com/articles.x/14967/10 If this review is correct, the 4850 has a much larger power draw when gaming that you might have expected. They're using a quad core, he has a dual core. So his 180W total power consumpt...

I have the same exact PSU, and mine is dead silent. I think yours is defective. Corsair seems to run a high number of DOA. But DOA means Dead on Arrival. Which means the PSU is dead right out of the box, and not powering the system. A working PSU (but with certain flaws) would afaik not qualify for...

I would return it just becaus I cant stand the noisy Dells. It's a shame that people run around with 500W PSUs when they really don't need to. According to one site, TWO 8800GTs draw less power than one GTS, too! That's a bit optimistic. Two 8800GTs would probably draw 160W (if you go by for instance XBitlabs measurements). That's about what an 8800 Ultra d...

Hello, I have NEVER heard of a PSU that controlled by the watts used. ALL the PSU's have a thermally controlled fan, if they control the fan speed at all. Think about it -- what if your room is very hot, but your computer is drawing only a small amount. The heatsinks inside the PSU will warm up, an...

Will a PS such as this with the fan on top work well in the P182 case. Normally, one would describe it as having the fan at the bottom, as most cases have the mounting position in such a manner. If you point it upwards, it's actually upside-down. It will work just as well though, as mentioned above.

25W per HDD is overkill, try something like half or less (10W max). Memory sticks less as well. Anyhoo, my system with an Asus P5B, E6600 @ stock, 8800GTS 640MB @ stock, 1 HDD, two sticks of memory and some USB peripherals (external 2.5" HDD) uses just about 200W under load. So it stands to reason y...

I think it's nice with a 430W modular supply, it does give, as mentioned, those with lesser requirements the possibility to get modularity without buying a PSU that is overkill. Personally I have no really high standards, I'm perfectly happy running off a single graphics card. In addition I don't ov...

I'm guessing you used the Outervision calculator and selected quad CPU instead of single CPU. (Q6600 goes as single CPU). Anyway, that way the result is even further inflated.sebmack wrote:Thanks!

The general public wouldn't go for 100W PSUs, the idea today is that bigger is better. Just look at some of the other tech related forums, some places they advocate 600W PSUs to run mid range rigs with mid range cards. (We know of some of those places). So it probably wouldn't sell to anyone else th...

I believe the 8-pin connector is an EPS12V one, previously found on server boards, but as multi core CPUs made their way into the consumer market, it was needed to provide enough juice to the CPU. As for the other one, perhaps it's there as an auxiliary connector for graphics cards which don't have ...
