Re: Silencing and Overclocking a 5930k
Unfortunately those Silent Wings 3s are another example of taking what I could get for cheap on Kijiji. I know that I'm not really using them correctly, and the Silent Wings 2s are quieter at the bottom end of their RPM. The 1600rpm SW3 HS has a min speed of a bit above 400rpm and less than 450rpm ...

Re: Silencing and Overclocking a 5930k
That's another issue: although less quiet, it's more efficient than Be Quiet SW so it can squeeze more cooling prowess from the Ninja. Ok, That's something I will bear in mind as well. While looking to see if I still have the scythe I did find a Cougar V12HB in a drawer, so I will see if that is a ...

Re: Silencing and Overclocking a 5930k
My "non-answer" is that your goals look like maybe a tad too much ambitious for your described resources. Certainly a valid answer. Well, my first concern is that an oc'ed Haswell-E is a tad too much hot for a Ninja with a low spinning fan: while this heatsink is perfectly adequate for a 115x CPU, ...

The Question I would like to know what you would do to improve this setup and move towards achieving my goals. My "non-answer" is that your goals look like maybe a tad too much ambitious for your described resources. Said that, did you tried the original Scythe fan on the Ninja? And moreover, were ...

What fan do you recommend me to buy for my cpu cooler and for my case if I don't like the fractal fans? Broadly speaking, fans selection mainly depends of your sources: please link to what's available to you. Said that, the CPU fan mostly depends of your budget, while for case fans that mainly depe...

50-70W more, on load, than the slightly less fast RX 480: albeit with a far better thermal target, not that good... I hope AMD will hit the spot, sooner or later.

With two 1070, 550W are enough, 650W more than enough. Check twice, the RM650x is not surely quieter than the 550W, its fan spins faster.

Re: Computer upgrade: need advice on case and fans
As for the CPU cooler, I will try with the Hyper 202 first and see what happens. I meant to replace the cooler fan, not the cooler itself: the Hyper 212 Evo is enough good for cooling an i5, but the stock fan is mediocre/bad sounding ones over 5-600rpm. How are the fans that come with the case? You...

EVGA B3 - a new series, starting at 450W (easily enough for one CPU + one VGA), also semi-fanless, Bronze, should be cheaper than Corsairs Basically untested, a Leadex-based design but with cut corners (cabling, for instance) over the B2, and with increased power density: I mean, it's not a safe be...

My father passed away about 2 months ago I'm sorry for your loss, but welcome on SPCR. So here are my questions: - Is the 200R a good case? so.... what PSU should I choose? I'm oriented to the Be Quiet! Definitely NOT the Power Zone: it *IS* rather...

I read on the Silverstone page "The fanless mode operation deactivates when PSU’s internal temperature reaches 55°C.", and you said "...around 25°C you should expect that kind of fanless operation range with the Silverstone (as recorded by ComputerBase): with higher ambient temps, YMMV...". Re: New Seasonic PRIME Titanium Review
Bottom line seems to be outstanding electrical performance efficiency and build quality, but fan acoustics get noisy when running above 300W. I look at anything Fylladitakis writes about acoustics in a suspicious light. Those are the fan curves at 40-47°C of the 650W and 850W as recorded by THG: 65...

Luca, so do I understand correctly that if ambient temps in the room and computer exceed 25°C, the Silverstone fan will start spinning regardless of power draw? No, unless I'm misunderstanding you, I think you got it completely wrong. I just said that >180W fanless operation is referred to an ambie...

Re: PSU needed for my system
Thanks. If the little Silverstone 80mm fan stays off under 180W draw, then I do understand the appeal of that unit. Any PSU fan controller (set aside digital ones like for instance Corsair AXi ones) is temperature-driven. So around 25°C you should expect that kind of fanless operation range with th...

Re: PSU needed for my system
I place build quality and reliabilty as my top priority, followed by quietness, then efficency. Does that help? Build quality wise the EVGAs (any) and the Corsair RM550x are about equal, top notch, while the FSP-based Silverstone is a tad below: it's rated 50°C by FSP, so its build quality is relat...

When you say "semi-passive", you mean it stops the fans at low temperature? Exactly. I was thinking about the RX 480. It's a fine, less expensive option. The Radeon drivers seem to be better, less crapware etc, With reference to my own experience, I don't think so: and about bloatware/unnecessary o...

I guess any seriously reviewed semi-passive one, even a 1060, which had the right connectors for the job, would do the trick.

Luca, do you consider the newer EVGA SuperNOVA G3 Series to be a step down from the previous G2 Series? You don't like the fan in the G3? but ~$80 and passive for your loads. Not modular but a very shy casing, less than $50 and passive as well as the EVGA G3 for OP expected power draw, at first glance I like the Silverstone ST-30SF V1.0 more for that job (and it's specifically marketed by Silverstone for NAS jobs). Otherwise, whether...
