Re: Seasonic X400 in Lian li 352
If you want to be on the safe side you could use a top blower cooler for the CPU and reverse the airflow. If the fan on top of CPU cooler pulls air from underneath and pushes it through the PSU, both CPU and PSU should be adequately cooled with a single fan. The standard 12cm Lian Li fans are not w...

Re: Seasonic X400 in Lian li 352
Also: with 2x 120mm input fans, god help your noise levels if your 1x 80mm fan matches them! :) I was thinking along the same lines about the airflow. The inlet fans probably push some air through the PSU. But I'll sure check all the grills (with a tissue paper or something) to see the air pressure...

Seasonic X400 in Lian li 352
I'm about to build a new system to the small cubic Lian li 352 case. I'd go for Seasonic X-560 as a PSU, but it's not available at the moment. The X-400 model is stocked by local dealer. Seasonic X-400 is passively cooled. I wonder if it would cause problems in a small case like this Lian li where t...

Re: Silent Home Server Build Guide
To me it seems that the backup device (Icy Box) section would benefit to have a bit of description on what terms it is a viable option as a backup device. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but as far as I know, there's no straightforward way to make complete WHS backup to this kind of eSata device. Pe...

The low number of sata connectors really is a minus for the Nexus Value 430. What about the Nexus cable lengths? To set it up to Antec P18X with cable management at least the 4 pin CPU connector cable should be long enough. And of course the big ATX connector cable as well. Anyone has any idea about...

Re: Shallow depth cases
Lian-li PC-V350.
The specs says depth is closer to 40 cm, but for this case it't quite natural to place it sideways on your desk. Depends on your desk layout if this is ok.

Thanks for all of you, I appreciated all your comments. Phantom is now in place. It wasn't actually as tight as I expected. The cables coming out of it caused a bit trouble, as they are not organized at all. Difficult to route them in a spacey way. At first I wasn't overly impressed by the results, ...

A P500 fits into a P180/182 without modification, as long as the center fan is 25mm thick (the early P180s had a thicker fan in the bottom, which could simply be swapped with one of the other fans). The cables are a snug fit, with a few millimeters of clearance. You should remove the fan during ins...

P180/2 & Antec Phantom 500: case mod needed?
How do you P180/2 & Antec Phantom 500 owners fit the psu to the case? Do you remove the fan from the lower chamber altogether? I'm thinking about cutting a hole to the back of the case to get the psu stick out a bit from the case. I guess it wouldn't hurt cooling, but would make some room for the ca...

you might be able to turn on power-saving features in windows and have it spin down the drives after an hour if inactivity. But dont count on the system drive shutting off. windows seems to frequently access that drive for some reason. ....... infact i may do the same on my own server, just to see ...

Windows Home Server requires you to format each drive before use [for decreased risk of data loss]. so be prepared for that. No problem here. The drives I'm thinking of using are not in use at the moment. Well, a few of them are now holding backups, but I'll need to utilize some extra capacity to h...

Re: Sorry...
...the machine won't be in standby. It's a server - the drives will all be spinning 24/7. Do you mean that there's no way to set individual drives to stop spinning whenever they're not in use? I'm not familiar with server installations, but to get philosophical, I'm the one who the server should be...

the p182 only has room for 7 drives without trying to use the 5 1/4 slots. something to keep in mind. Yes, I'm aware of that. It's possible that seven drives is enough actually, but it's nice to have three drive slots in spare (one is for DVD drive), just in case I would need to add extra drives. I...

Hardware for Windows Home Server setup
Hello there, I'm thinking about building a server to run Microsoft Windows Home Server operating system. So, a system that would mostly stay standby and wake up every day/night when desktops/laptops need backup or someone accesses the files in the server. No cpu requirements to speak of and no graph...

ivier, im in the same position as you. What did you end up getting? I chose one from the BeQuiet StraightPower series. It probably isn't the most silent psu on market, the cables are not modular and the airflow goes from bottom to back (unlike what's optimal for P180). The main point for me was it ...

I just happened to test the power consumption of my system (Intel C2D 6600, Asus P5B, few HDs) in various states. When using the system, it conserves around 150-160 W. In standby the power consumption is 8 W. When turned off, it's still around 6 watts. When switched off the PSU (BeQuiet), it's final...

I've just used a sunny saturday looking for a replacement for the Antec Heo NE 430W that failed to work with my Asus P5B in the proper manner. I'm afraid I can't say I would have managed to find a better one (except that this non-Antec works with my Asus), but a couple of points anyway. First, I've ...
