Attach a Heatsink to another...
...or how I got bored on a Sunday afternoon. Think attaching a heatsink to another heatsink sounds like a crazy idea? http://i184.photobucket.com/albums/x87/aelfewulf/Photo-0094-1.jpg Mating surface on the original Gigabyte 8600gt was lapped. Originally it was very convex, so it was hard work. I use...

Ultimate GPU burn-in software
I have experimented and found that this particular software, the Nvidia Smoke Demo, really stresses and burns the GPu, much more so than AtiTool Artifact Scan, which is already known for stressing the GPU. Smoke Demo gave a 10C higher load temp! I believe if yr system can survive this software, it c...

Well I'm using the Gigabyte 8600GT, quite satisfied with it. Then I got bored, so I did a little modding project which gave pretty satisfactory results, temperature wise. Basically it involves adding attaching another heatsink to the stock heat sink. Sounds crazy? Will post details in a new thread s...

It seems intuitive to me that placing the fan nearer to the graphics card would improve cooling, provided its a passive heatsink on the GPU. I think whats more important is to make sure the heated air that goes right out through the back PCI panels. And if you are leaving the PCI panels open, make s...

I have the Asus P5K too. I've learned not to trust the CPU temp readings from the Asus software. Use Coretemp and Speedfan instead. But system temp and voltages are accurate. It seems yr system temp at 43C is abit to high, considering yr low ambient of 20C? Mine is 40C at 30C ambient. Check yr casin...

graysky, I lapped both heatsink and CPU, and I can concur with yr results. Both my heatsink and CPU surface were concave initially. Yr coretemps improved by abt 6-7 degrees, mine was 5. Which means u probably had better technique! I'm gonna wait for my AS5 to settle in, hope it drops by another 2 de...

JohnFL, good question on lapping the CPU. Here's what I did: 1. Cover up the pins with the stock intel black plastic protector 2. Tape up the edges with electrical tape, so that dust/water can't go in That's it! The IHS is covered by a layer of nickel. After the initial polishing, you will start to ...

Hi Wibla, nice rig! Since u are using Speedfan, u might wanna know that it has been reported in other forums that Speedfan registers coretemps that are 15 degrees lower than actual. It seems logical to me that the coretemps should be higher than system temp at all times. I'm using both Coretemp 0.95...

Cool,quiet P182 mini-report
Hello all! After a year of lurking, I'd like to share my experiences while building this rig, this might be useful to fellow P182 users, and also those considering using this wonderful case from Antec. Here we go! My guiding principles while building/modding this rig is pretty simple: 1. As quiet as...
