V2000 instead with 8 [soon 12] hard drives, similiar problem
I know exactly what you mean. I've been built a few units with the V1000/2000 series cases and they are very, very good but if I'm not mistaken, you are referring to both the direct noise from the hard drives as well as the resonance coming off the drives? I use typically Samsung 501LJs so my drives...

Corsair's new VX series
http://www.corsairmicro.com/products/vx.aspx Can't wait till SPCR reviews this *hint hint*. Looks like a HX-Lite with cheaper cabling [non-modular and only a single* PCI-E output] but it's still Seasonic with a double-bearing fan. It might even be a lot quieter if we can believe the noise vs load gr...

Really? Thing is iCute is better known for cheap and gaudy cases [some have to be seen to be believed ^ ^] that are a small cut above the generic ones. Analog dial wattage displays, 'moving turbine fan' cases, samurai themed cases... well I did buy one of their 3.5" display units which could display...

I'm trying to source this fan now [I'm outside the US though] since it would appear to me that a casing like Lian-Li's V series [top, bottom, front and back sides are all mesh, only the side panels are solid] would like this setup. A single large fan blowing in, centered on the first PEG slot with t...

I haven't been keeping up to date with the latest cases. Is there a handful of cases that I need to add to the list, or is it getting to the point where there are many new 120mm models showing up often, and it would be pointless to try to keep up a list? No, no. Do keep it up to date ^ ^. In fact, ...

I'm betting on the NB. I had a very similiar setup to yours except I had a full drive cage next to the intake fan and a different NB cooler. Your story doesn't sound weird at all to me, no issues during the heaviest of gaming [CM fan never breaks 4500 RPM] but doing something 'lighter' [like encodin...

Where I am, I can't get these PSUs yet, just the 'Pro' versions. However the Odin Pros that I see locally, have the 6/8-pin PCI-E connector cables. They seem to be the same as the GT versions except they cost a whole lot less. USD 165 versus USD 230 [for the 800w version, latter price is the vendor'...

Anyone used Coolermaster iGreen PSUs before? Quiet?
They are rather cheap too but the main attaction for me is the incredible MBTF Coolermaster quotes for the PSUs. Thing is, are they quiet? Has anyone used them before? The planned usage for the PSUs is for file-server [p2p / fserve] cum game server [BF2 or ArmA] using Intel C2D CPUs, onboard graphic...

Which enclosure do you use? I'm using an overpriced Cooler Master 'X-Craft eSata' enclosure and my HD501LJ definitely gets hot with it. The only ventilation with this enclosure is the mesh grill on the bottom of the enclosure so I elevate it a little to drop the temperature. I was getting high 40s C...

The main thing is that all the heat generated by the drive is removed. i.e. the rate of heat removal = rate of heat generated. I used to work at one of the major OEMs. We would put certain drives in certain cases assuming an ambient temperature of 30-40C for consumers, higher for business but lower ...
