LGA-771 Xeon Heatsink Suggestions
I am planning on installing a Asus DSAN-DX motherboard in Antec P182 cabinet. I will be running two Xeon 5410 processors which I would like to cool preferably passively or at the very least silently. I would have choosen Thermalright HR-01-X, but it seems that the processor sockets on the DSAN-DX mo...

Antec P182 SSI CEB (12inch x 10.5inch) Motherboard Support
I googled a lot to find out if Antec P182 cabinet will support a SSI CEB sized (12inch x 10.5inch) motherboard, but in vain. I will be greatful if any member can throw some light. I specifically want to fit Asus DSAN-DX motherboard in Antec P182 cabinet. The product page of the motherboard can be fo...

^ Thanx a lot for the inputs. Appreciated. It is little doubtful that these boards will be more effecient than AMD 690G/V based boards..... Most of the online reviews claim the 690 to be one of the most effecient chipsets. Plus 'AMD cool n quite' works well on the AMD chipset as against the nVidia c...

Lowest Power Consuming AM2 Motherboard
I want to assemble some computer nodes for use on field for a research related experiment. The computer nodes will have to run off 12V 40AH batteries for which I will be using requsite DC-DC supplies. Now my requirement from the nodes is only compute power and not graphics etc. I also need 2 free le...

4-pin GPU Fan Connector & 12V PWM Fans?
Is it possible to use regular 12V PWM fans on 4-pin GPU fan connector found on some cards? Specifically, I have a eVGA 8600GT 256MB card on which I want to fit a 92mm PWM fan. The original HSF had a 4-pin PWM fan which connected to a smaller than usual 4-pin header on the card. Can I plug in a regul...

Push-Pull Configuration - Queries?
I have some queries about running fans in push pull configuration:- 1. Very roughly, how much increase in airflow can be expected if using two similar fans? 2. Roughly, how much is the increase in noise over running a single fan if a fan of same type is added? 3. What should be the ideal/minimum/max...

IMHO it is important to post such experiences as it keeps the companies on their toes for the fear of loss of customers. Legal route is always there, but posts on reputed forums (like SPCR) tend to afftect the companies more. Though I fell that you have used a rather improper title for your post. It...

Even 1% failure rate with a supply seems to be too high. Considering a ratio of 33:1 for incorrect:correct representation, the Phantom still makes for a bad choice! Especially with the higher ambient temperatures around in my case, I am a worried man now. :( I guess I will have to set my lower chamb...

^ Thanx for the input. I have ordered the Fast (1600RPM) series to go with this motherboard. It would have been very nice if the lower voltage would have gone down to 4V. Since it goes down only to 6V, I plan to use diodes to drop the voltage to the fans by 2V (approx). I hope the fans will start re...

Abit IP35 Pro - uGuru & Fan Control
I find the Abit IP35 Pro one of the best boards for green and silent computing as it consumes low power and has excellent fan control (though not analog, but should be OK for low budget or carefuly selected fans). I have ordered this board and have some queries regarding the uGuru fan control:- 1. W...

^ Thankyou, ^^ Thankyou again! Now I am really worried about the failure rate of this PSU. 33% is damn too much by any standards. That makes it a very very very poor choice..... I doubt that your ambient temp is 50C, you would be hospitalised if you spent to much time in that environment, forget your computers noise, YOU could die  I expect you actually mean the ambient temp as recorded somewhere inside your case, again I doubt that is true, 40C around the motherboar...

Arctic Cooling Accelero S2 on 8600GT?
Can the Arctic Cooling Accelero S2 be used on a 8600GT? The OEM specifications dont mention 8600GT in the compatibility list:- http://www.arctic-cooling.com/vga2.php?idx=125 But I remember someone telling me that it can be used and infact there is a 8600GT card which comes prefitted with a S2.
