Re: Another D201GLY2 system

lazateca wrote: is that a Zalman ZM-NB32K?
It is indeed-- well done.

The system runs SlimServer on FreeNAS from a CF card. Most of it is geared toward SlimServer users, but there's a longer writeup about the system here: http://wiki.syburgh.com/display/project ... on+FreeNAS

Another D201GLY2 system

It's in an iStar S-3 case and runs FreeNAS from a CF card: http://flickr.com/photos/21836199@N02/s ... 455384375/

Replaced the heatsinks, though the CPU heatsink was already sufficient. (long stort-- the M300 case did not work out)

Re: ITX case

IIRC this case uses one or two 40mm fans. I'd imagine keeping the box quiet and cool at the same time must be quite a challenge. Not too bad so long as they are connected to the variable speed fan header (REAR_FAN). The included fan is low speed 40x10mm, and not sufficient. Works OK with 2 40x20mm ...

ITX case

frank2003 wrote:Has anyone tried fitting this board into a mini-itx case?
Yes, it fits well even in a very small case like the Mini-Box M300. The height of the CPU heatsink can be an issue, but the board itself fits.

Re: SPCR's review: Intel D201GLY2 Mini-ITX mainboard

jdmc wrote:The D201GLY2 with the exact same components mentioned above showed 35W at idle and 42-45 under load.
Can confirm this measurement-- I see about 29-30W idle and 37W under full CPU load using a similar DC PSU (picoPSU-120) and CF card in lieu of hard drive.

CentOS (Redhat clone) x86_64 has no problems. Works as well as any other Intel system in x86_64 mode.

@Bluefront: I found a similar heatsink at the store-- a Swiftech MCX156-CU . It's intended for chipset cooling and at 40x40mm, is smaller than the 50x50mm stock CPU heatsink. It's also 40mm tall without its fan, which is a few mm shorter than the stock D201GLY2 CPU heatsink. Seems the standard CPU h...

Can you just connect picoPUS to an ATX extension cable? The picoPSU works fine with an ATX extension cable, but the result is less than ideal (bulky cable can impact airflow in compact case, etc.). A very short (e.g. 2-3cm) ATX extension cable, or some sort of plug riser would be better. Most exten...

Am using picoPSU-120 with no significant issues (so far). It does touch the LAN/USB housing, but doesn't look too bad.

Here are my results testing D201GLY2 in open environment (as posted earlier, photos of test setup ). I stopped testing after the North Bridge reached 93C. There appears to be no sensor for North Bridge temperature... Note that the CPU fan header runs the fan at a constant (high) speed, where the REA...

What are the heatsink attachment methods? Wondering about possibility of replacing factory heatsink with something better. I would think to focus on the NB more so than CPU, are they independently attached? Heatsinks are separately attached using compression clips that bisect the heatsink-- both HS...

syburgh, Which power brick are you using with the PicoPSU-120 ? Brick is 12V 6.67A. Judging from your pics, it would be easy for you to install a fan in the top plate of your case blowing down or sucking out. Agreed-- normally run it with a loud, inefficient 92mm fan sitting next to the CPU, which ...

Received D2012GLY2 over the weekend-- it does boot from USB flash disk. It seems to boot quickly (1GB DIMM) from SATA, IDE, and USB. The BIOS seems to be evolving rapidly, though the board seems stable. Arrived in unmarked box containing: D201GLY2 board packaged in a static bag Jumper diagram sticke...
