System power consumption - will 120w be enough?
Well I've bought most of the components for my HTPC build, except the case. Been searching for low profile case for two months now, without finding anything I'd like. Now I'm rethinking Silverstone LC19, a nice case, but unfortunately it comes with 120W psu, which cannot be replaced. I'm little worr...

G35 offers a higher speed FSB, higher speed memory clocks and includes DX10 support. It doesn't do h.264 (the upcoming G45 should), but it does hardware decoding of MPEG-2 and VC-1, however (hence the good results while decoding those). Regarding your quote, I seriously doubt that processor running ...

PS: this is the PC case of my choice. But as with many other computer parts, it's a question of taste. I'm also trying to get my hands on one Lian-li case (black C35, to be more precise). I will use this opportunity to grumble about me waiting for that case over one month. It still hasn't arrived :...

Sorry, but I just wonder why you guys didn't go for the Asus P5E-VM HDMI ? Yep, that's a very good board. But, I live in a god-forsaken-land (just kidding :)) where no Asus P5E-VM HDMI is yet available. And I believe dskeeles is trying to use riser card in his case which is very picky about the lay...

We'll have to exchange motherboards :-) :D I realised that there are a couple of alternatives: the GA-73UM-S2H(rev. 1.0) and GA-73PVM-S2H But none of those two boards supports dual channel memory. I'd be sure to check if this would affect performance while playing some high bitrate movies -...

Interesting. I've just looked at the store where I've bought mine, and they still have some left (unfortunately, I think this store don't ship stock outside the country). I think this is because HTPC building is still not very popular in Croatia. The gamers surely will not buy mATX board that has PC...

Bear in mind that you should take Thermaltake's claims about noise measurements with a very, very large pinch of salt. There's little chance of it actually being just 17dB - it is very likely to be much louder. I'll keep that in mind. But quite a few reviews I read also stated that it actually is v...

Re: Silent, low profile cooler (max height 75mm) for c2d
What other noise making components are you looking at? - Gigabyte G33M-S2H board is passively cooled with integrated graphics. No noise. - I don't have dedicated graphic card, no noise. - One 2.5" notebook drive. - Two 40mm ball bearing case fans - they are supposed to be quiet, if we'll trust a fe...

@igor123 - did you manage to find a heatsink in the end? Nope. Not yet :) The case I ordered still haven't arrived, and I'd like to measure the exact horizontal clearance between processor and side of the case before buying - it'll be a tight fit. But, on the bright side I just bought myself a bran...

Re: Is GA-73PVM-S2H the best bet?
Hi. Until very recently I had the same problem - find mATX board for my future HTPC. - I rejected GA-73PVM-S2H because it supports single channel memory only; I expect this would seriously cripple any high bitrate decoding. - I rejected Abit Fatal1ty F-I90HD only because a lot of people are complain...

Can I use 2.5" SATA notebook drive in desktop computer?
Possibly a stupid question, but...
Can 2.5" notebook hard drive with SATA interface be used in desktop computer as is, or do I need some sort of adapter to connect it? I'm not sure if the connectors on this drive are the same as the ones on regular desktop SATA drives.
Regards.

Thanks for your replies guys. Zalman 7000 is an option, I don't care if it is a bit older, if it gets the job done. Now, between Zalman 7000 and Thermaltake Golden Orb II I don't know which is more silent? I found some very good reviews for the Orb (although this is not very popular cooler arund her...

But I'll hold until Hitachi's counterpart, P7K500, then I would make a purchase. I guess it'll be interesting to compare them at more modest capacity such as 500GB. Do you mean this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822145215&Tpk=P7K500 As I can see, some Hitachi P7K500 are...

Many thanks for the review! Right now I'm building a new HTPC, using very slim case that can fit only one drive - and because of space restrictions, no fan or additional heatsink can be mounted on this drive. I was planning to use 2.5" notebook drive to reduce heat and noise, although this would ser...

Thanks for suggestion. But I'd prefer intel's processor, so I choose the board accordingly. Please tell me, this board you're suggesting, has integrated ATI Radeon X1250-based graphics. Is this the main reason you find this mobo better? If so, there are some boards with the same graphics for intel p...

My first HTPC - opinions and suggestion are welcome
Hi, This is my first HTPC build. It will be used for playing HD mkv's, music and browsing family photos, connected to LCD TV. Small size, silence and low power consumption are a requirement. So I have come up with following specs: Case: Lian-Li PC-C35 (with 300W PSU included) ( http://www.overclocke...

Thanks for reply. Vortex 752 It's 75.4mm tall, a very tight fit, if at all (maybe this 0.4mm can be shaved off ). Unfortunately, its not available where I live. Now I was looking at Thermaltake Golden Orb II, a little older, but supposed to be quiet. Vertically it should fit, horizontally -...

Silent, low profile cooler (max height 75mm) for c2d
Hello, I need a cooler for E4500, Gigabyte G33-S2H mobo. The problem is, I have low profile case so the cooler can't be more than 75mm in height. The silence is priority. I was looking at some zalman models (CNPS8700 for example, which I believe it could fit nicely) but some reviews I read says they...

There are some Gigabyte GA-73PVM-S2H available in my local store (looking at the specs it is almost the same as 73UM-S2H). This is actually a very cheap board, but still packed with a lot of features... I'll try to find some reviews later to see how it performs. The very noticeable drawback is the l...

ABIT F-I90HD Fatal1ty or Gigabyte G33M-S2H for HTPC
Hello, I'm looking for mATX board for my future HTPC. Since the case I'll be using is very slim and can't use any additional cards, mobo must have all functionality I need. Requirements: - No gaming performance needed. - Will have to play any HD content, but I plan to make processor do all the job -...

Thanks for your replies! So I conclude that this custom resolution should not be the problem, as long as my tv's input match mobo's video output. What is the story with HDCP support? This is needed for watching original blue-ray discs, right? Would this still be necessary if I use VGA/DVI video outp...

Can integrated graphic card be connected to lcd tv?
Sorry for potential noob question... I'd like to buy 32" lcd tv. Most models I'm considering have 1366x768 native resolution. I also want to build slim HTPC, just for watching movies and tv - no gaming planned. My problem is graphic card. Some beautiful looking slim cases (I have my eye on Lian Li C...
