Re: replace stamped grille with wire guard ??
On my systems with exhaust fans like that I just cut away the pattern. Intake = you can chop up a finger Exhaust = it'll beat it but it won't cut ... Colorful description. :) ... but if you want more data than that look at http://www.pugetsystems.com/labs/articles/Effects-of-Grill-Patterns-on-Fan-P...

replace stamped grille with wire guard ??
Greetings - Considering removing an 80mm stamped grille (bottom right): http://www.oldwithoutmoney.com/images/grill.jpg and replacing it with a wire guard: http://www.oldwithoutmoney.com/images/wireGuard.jpg . Anyone actually done this who can speak to whether they thought it was worthwhile, in term...

Xigmatech Loki, Big Shuriken or other <135mm for X6 1090T
Greetings -
Looking for a cooler 135mm or shorter (i.e. - fits in an LC17 / LC13E) to cool an X6 1090T.
My regular Rev. B Shuriken isn't quite up to the task under load (it was previously cooling an X2 Regor 250).
Candidates include Xigmatech Loki & Big Shuriken.
Thoughts?

MA785GMT-UD2H undervolting - CPU vs. RAM
Greetings - Just upgraded my X2 Regor 250 to an X6 1090T. (Lightroom was just too pokey -- now it's fine.) Board is the Gigabyte MA785GMT-UD2H. I've modestly undervolted the CPU .15v -- so far, so good. I had to up the RAM multiplier from 6 to 8 get the board to use the RAM at its rated 1600, rather...

multi-boot - recommended order ??
Greetings - I'd like to set up a multi-boot system -- WinXP, Win7, Linux. From a 'making the kids play nicely perspective', is there a recommended order? My Win7 is an upgrade copy, and it'll only install on a prior winSystem, so I was thinking 1) create 3 partitions 2) install Win XP on partition 1...

Looks like a Scythe Big Shuriken. Yes, indeed. ...why not remove the fan and see how your temps end up after an hour or two of CPU load? You may find that the EA-430's fan will speed up because all the CPU heat will be piling up in the top of the case. Makes sense. Any harm expelling the heat via t...

Greetings - I've just thrown together a modest upgrade to replace my old single-core Athlon XP 3000+ -- Regor 250 with Scythe Big Shuriken, GA-MA785GMT-UD2H, Antec Earthwatts 430. inexpensive (<$100)eSata external enclosure recommendatio
Greetings -
Anyone have any recommendations for an inexpensive (but not total dreck) external enclosure that I can throw, say, a 500GB-1TB WD green into?
Thanks.

You can fit two, 5.25" drives in this case. Lengths are somewhat standardized..there's rarely a need to perform measurements for a component like a PSU or DVD drive ... Ummm ... from the SPCR review (http://www.silentpcreview.com/article763-page4.html): While the larger power supply is more conveni...

Antec NSK3480 users -- what CD/DVD drive?
After reviewing the review, I'm inclined to get an NSK3480 case,
but I'm concerned about lack of space for a CD/DVD drive.
Drive length doesn't appear to be specified by online merchants.
I'd welcome recommendations.
Thanks.

65w X2 3.0GHz Regor 250 vs. 45w X4 2.3GHz Propus 605e ??
Hello again - I truly don't understand cores vs. speed, & the influence that cache can/does have. Let's ignore the $100 price difference. Is one likely to be faster than the other for i) sound recording ii) photo processing? Is it (almost) entirely program dependent? Insight most welcome. - Richard ...

understanding power requirements - multi-core CPUs
Greetings - I'm trying to understand power requirements for multi-core CPUs. When a 2-core CPU (e.g. - the Regor 250, a 2-core CPU) is rated at 65w TDP, does that mean that it draws a total of 65w, or 65w per core? Similarly, for the 605e (a 4-core CPU), does it draw a total of 45w, or 45w per core?...

If cost is the main concern, then you can't go wrong with a Freezer 64 . It's not the quietest or the coolest, but it's pretty good and really cheap. DVD-R's - is it just the luck of the draw
I seem to chronically have bad luck with CD-R / DVD-R drives.
My current drive, a Samsung TS-H552U, sounds like a diseased outboard motor during reads and idling.
At the end of the day, is it just the luck of the draw?
