I've done exactly this. http://www.silentpcreview.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=431626#431626 There is a picture on the rear label of the Dell brick. I soldered the two +12 wires together, and the two Common (ground) wires together *with* the pin labelled "remote". The pin "Future use" was simply isola...

Re: Potential PSU

I see it as potentially being able to drive this board with E8400 and 2 optical drives and a laptop hard drive. However, I'm a bit worried by the specs on the ac-dc i.e 84W max power and only 80% efficiency. Is the normal 120W Pico with 102W brick more likely to power this combo? I have this board ...

2 New DELL 255W Power Supply gets 80plus Silver

I saw on 80plus.org that DELL was recently awarded the Silver rating for two 255W PSUs. Efficiency was excellent at (very) low power draws. http://80plus.org/manu/psu/documents/SP179_DELL_H255E-00_255W_Report.pdf http://80plus.org/manu/psu/documents/SP228_DELL_F255E-00_255W_Report.pdf Even better th...

Ok, hit the link for a simplified drawing set. The drawings are to be used as a guideline, not as a "blueprint". http://rapidshare.com/files/87232131/case.zip.html I used mainly countersunk pop rivets to fasten the sheet metal parts, but spot welding or glue (Araldit or similar) would probably work ...

Well, the USB disks are there simply because I have no better place to put them... They add only 0.75TB to the already installed 2TB, so I am not keeping them connected at all times. But they do kind of look good next to their "big brother"... The Transporter works beautifully with the server. Strea...

Regarding the noise, it is really very quiet. In fact, the external WD disks that are placed beside it makes more (vibration) noise when they are spinning than the server. And yes, the noise that the system produces are disk induced vibration noise. But since I wanted to fit everything in such a sma...
